John Magnus Dahl and I have a new article out in Journalism, about the pandemic news experience of monitoring infection rates.

Building on in-depth interviews in Norway in late 2020, we explain monitoring of metrics as a coping mechanism – to move from fear of an uncontrollable situation into making everyday decisions.

👆this sensitive & respectful reflection/critique (which discusses us specifically) will especially be useful to academics, whose communications (& sometimes research practices) have long been shaped by toxic & unpleasant cultures of competition, self promotion, & extractive logics (on corporate social media, but also within marketised Unis themselves).
If we at least start to use content warnings for our professional self puffery on here, that would be a healthy start.
