#FederatedPress has new artwork! @Anna did a great job—talk to her if you need some cute mastodons for your server.

I'm not sure, these may be the first recorded #journodons in the wild. 🐘

Oooo TIL that PassCheck exists to verify #journodons so that they can have a cool green checkmark on their profile.

It is interesting how my news consumption patterns have changed since I’ve shut down my Twitter account.

Without the continual flow of undigested bits of news on the BirdSite, and the relative lack of news here, I actually find myself reading MORE news directly, more slowly, from the actual source, with far less anxiety. 1/several

Hard no, and I don’t know any reporters who would permit it; but it is requested often enough that there is evidently a widespread belief that it is a normal practice.

Our local sheriff-elect was genuinely surprised when I said no to this request recently (and he turned down an interview request because of it).

#journodons, how do you respond to these requests?

Continuing that slow drip of stuff I wrote this year...

The anti-corporate/anti-globalization facets I glimpsed in researching the anti-apartheid movement are something that I wish I'd had more time to work with. I analyzed them in a journal article I wrote on corporate codes of conduct in South Africa, but then I was able to offer a summary of that for Jacobin earlier this year.

Don’t Believe a Corporation That Promises to Do Better

Corporate responsibility pledges are an increasingly common response to public scrutiny. But trusting private companies to keep their promises hasn’t worked in the past, and it won’t work in the future.

Continuing the slow rollout of my #publications from this year, this one from the Los Angeles Times was about #divestment during the anti-#apartheid movement and its significance today. I wrote it because there are a lot of misconceptions in the public sphere about it.

I think it mostly got traction because Bill McKibben liked it (unsurprisingly, we seem to agree with each other on these issues) and gave me a little boost back on #twitter.

Op-Ed: The anti-apartheid movement's lessons for climate divestment

Divestment’s true power is the ability to change minds and mobilize action, with effects that reach far beyond targeted investors and companies.

Rather than doing a thread of all of my #publications from this year like I used to do on #Twitter, instead I think I'll do a slow roll-out over the coming days and weeks.

This was a profile I wrote of NAICCO's food truck in Columbus, #Ohio. I wanted to understand how food helps us to understand the lived reality of many indigenous peoples in the U.S.: most live in urban, intertribal settings. The food NAICCO serves highlights that.
