A pied-billed grebe on the #IowaRiver along the #IowaRiverTrail. This encounter was a complete first for me. I didn't know this species existed prior to taking this photo and rushed home to ID it as soon as I could. For a birder, that's about as exciting as it gets👍.

It was an incredible year for American bald eagles along the #IowaRiver in #Coralville and #IowaCity, Iowa. But the beginning of March is typically the end of the migratory visit and the eagles move north to breed. Sorry to see them go but look forward to our encounters next year.

Other than the usual focus & framing concerns (had to go w/ a landscape crop w/ this image) it's been my experience that it's difficult to find an angle on a gull that can't produce a beautiful image. This is a ring-billed gull flying over the #IowaRiver near the #IowaRiverPowerDam along the #IowaRiverTrail in #Coralville, Iowa.
