In about 2017 or so I got a Creality CR-10. I printed everything with it. It ran nonstop for 2-3 years. Then something broke and I decided to upgrade the main board to a Bigtreetech SKR mini E3 v2.
Yeah, I never got it working after that, and the hours I put into it seemed increasingly irresponsible in light of my (somewhat nightmarish for a while) job.
Now I'm trying again. Ugh. Online guides: "Just compile the firmware..."
Seriously, fuck you. "Compile the firmware" requires about 250 steps and decisions, specialized coding software, knowledge of several hardware and software details, and (apparently) usually many hours and many attempts even when you more or less know what you're doing.

Anyway, after about 20 hours (this time) spent on this, I *might* have a working firmware build... if the horrible screeching error is due to bad connections (cracking that thing open again tomorrow) or other hardware issues (thermistor? temperature sensor? bed heater? Ugh).
I am seriously considering trashing this and buying a new printer.
