@wendythedruid "Mandates same-sex college roommates"? The entire bill is repulsive, but that part is simply absurd and can't possibly survive review in the courts (according to a guy who lacks any credentials for making such an assertion; namely, me). But it is ridiculous.
The rash of legislation aimed at #trans kids—banning gender confirmation surgery, restricting bathroom choice, etc.–is clearly aimed at intimidating and humiliating children, and has to stop. (I'm less certain about rules prohibiting participation by trans athletes in gender-segregated sports: there are too few people affected, and too many questions to which I have no answer, for me to have an opinion there.)
If we had a Supreme Court that wasn't filled with Supreme Douchebags, such clearly unconstitutional (and cruel) legislation would find no safe harbor.

Well the shooter at least saved us all from the incomprehensible verbal assault euphemistically referred to as "the president's remarks".
Federal #judges—especially at the district level—are practically all that's left standing between this administration and its goal of supplanting #democracy in favor of American-flavored #fascism. #Democrats have to take every possible action to delay or deny confirmations to the Federal bench.
If Dems somehow manage to take the #Senate this November, we can shut down the appointment of unqualified right-wing nutjob judges that have characterized this administration, once and for all. Until then, we can only exact a toll for each such nomination, invoking cloture under Rule 22 and utilizing every minute of delay made possible under that procedure.
I’ll say it again: Mahmoud Khalil is not an admirable person; he believes and says ignorant and hateful things.
It is equally true that deporting him is a gross injustice, and should be prevented at all costs.
That’s what it means to be American: standing up for the rights of terrible people, because if they have no rights, none of us do.
I truly hope that American #Catholics aren't subjected to hatred and harassment as a result of Red Don's utterly idiotic and one-sided feud with the Pope. But if they are, I'm confident that #Jews like myself will stand by them. We understand what ignorant hatred can to do a community.
The lesson I choose to take from the defeat of #fascism in #Hungary is that once people truly understand the consequences of choosing fascism; when they realize the issue is #freedom—not just this policy or that legislation, but rather the fundamental right to live without the boot of the state on their necks— they’ll embrace #democracy. Every. Time.
