#HexOS gave me the 1.0 update this morning and it feels like I am opening Christmas presents! Yep I am a nerd!

Since I have no one to be proud of me I will just say it here.

Yesterday I setup #HexOS Installed both #Plex and #Nextcloud including talk and integrated it with #claude synced my contacts (still battling with calendar)as well as my email provider and encrypted it all with #tailscale

#bipolar hyper-focus for the win!

#HexOS is pretty spiffy now.

#Nextcloud up in running in no time.

@jimsalter I must admit I REALLY enjoyed listening to you give @allanjude some friendly side eye over the #HexOS
#ZFS AnyRaid changes on the latest @25admins :)

It's an interesting example of why the show makes for enlightening and entertaining listening even as someone who will very likely never be in a position where I need to professionally administer self maintained enterprise class storage.

Uhm, i've just spent 2x300 bucks on a new 18TB #ZFS mirror - fancy Toshiba MG09 HDDs!

And now, social media tells me about #AnyRaid? How's that supposed to work?

One can't possibly mix too-dissimmilar capacities, and expect proper redundancy - you'd need at least 3 HDDs to make it make anywhere near sense - seems a bit rough!

You get 3 HDDs of wattage, but only 1 can fail - is that the deal - at WHICH capacity ratios?

Someone needs to Zed-splain #HexOS AnyRaid - on YT! #homelab #nas #server

AnyRaid huh? ZFS mismatched disk support? Is this going to be a good idea even when development is finished? And how long is that likely to take?

Still. An interesting thing to see being discussed and funded. #zfs #hexos #selfhosting

Introducing ZFS AnyRaid, Sponsored by Eshtek — HexOS

At the beginning of this year, we made the decision to invest a substantial chunk of capital to support an open source project for which we have great personal interest.  ZFS AnyRaid will give users the ability to mix different sized drives in a pool, a highly-requested feature since our la

My next NAS won't be a #Synology. I won't be buying hardware that is vendor locked. Maybe do some research into #HexOS? #PlannedObsolescence
HexOS

The home server OS that is designed for simplicity and lets you regain control over your data and privacy.

And it begins

Photo of Ubuntu Server Install So I finally started the temp server setup and immediately hit a wall due to formatting issues. Finally got everything set, started copying data over from the old server and realized that my soon to be server solution of HexOS (https://hexos.com) isn’t viable at this time. I need it to support more apps. So at least all I did was waste some time before I re-realized my goof.

And it begins – Mad Mole Labs

Finally I decided to try the new #HexOS. Some thought:

* The interface is really nice and I suspect this can make self-hosting much more accessible for lots of non-experts
* It
does bother me the admin UI is cloud-based... I understand there are plans to make it optional and everything should be local, but it is still weird.
* I've spent long hours configuring my own server, so there is a lot of overlap here and I might not use it personally, unless I would like to use
#zfs and rapid samba users for home, but other than that, I prefer my configuration.

It is still a GREAT product and I'm happy I supported it.
