I'd like to watch a deep dive into AnyRaid use-cases, preferably worst-case/hard use-cases. IDK, perhaps you started with a 4T, then you got another, and then a 10er, then the prices went bonkers, you get another in-betweener, or something.

My point: more attention to maths - it's fun, but not auto-magic! There're traps for young players.

Wasn't there a webinar on #ZFS, in particular about #AnyRaid (recently, near future)?

Did i miss it / where can i participate / watch the recording?

No-one seems to talk about the mathematical constraints of AnyRaid - you CAN NOT possibly have redundancy, beyond certain geometries - 2T+2T+6T - what if the 6T fails? Sure, we get ZFS checksumming+scrubbing; but i can't mix willy-nilly AND expect redundancy.

I wonder which #AI models / agents i can run on my local 32CUs of #RDNA4 (#Radeon 9060XT/16GB). Duck AI is fine, but their #Mistral is stuck in 2023, #GPT5mini is 2024.

I really want RAG(Retrieval-Augmented Generation) - the robot needs to be able to search the web.

E.g.: movie release dates, next season approval of shows, stuff that goes beyond #Linux manpages, #ZFS #AnyRaid, etm.

Could not agree more with @jimsalter take on “a primrose path to hell” on the new AnyRAID ZFS feature in the latest @25admins

Just seems like an idea preying on those who think they need it before fully understanding that they probably shouldnt! And encourages people to use a bag of random drives more likely to get them in trouble.

Uhm, i've just spent 2x300 bucks on a new 18TB #ZFS mirror - fancy Toshiba MG09 HDDs!

And now, social media tells me about #AnyRaid? How's that supposed to work?

One can't possibly mix too-dissimmilar capacities, and expect proper redundancy - you'd need at least 3 HDDs to make it make anywhere near sense - seems a bit rough!

You get 3 HDDs of wattage, but only 1 can fail - is that the deal - at WHICH capacity ratios?

Someone needs to Zed-splain #HexOS AnyRaid - on YT! #homelab #nas #server
