It’s hot: Check list of Oakland County cooling centers
It’s dangerously hot outside and it’s probably going to stay that way through Friday, June 21.
The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning on Monday for Oakland, Macomb, Wayne and Genesee counties until 8 p.m. Friday.
NWS says the daytime heat index, the way it feels outside based on humidity’s effect on the temperature, will range between 95 and 100 degrees this week. There will be little cooling off at night.
Extreme heat can be dangerous for those who must spend a significant amount of time outdoors or who don’t have air conditioning.

Most centers are not open 24 hours; those who plan to use them should call to find out availability.
Pregnant people, infants, children, the elderly and those with chronic illness are at greater risk, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
MDHHS recommends the following:
– Reduce outdoor activity.
– Drink plenty of water; avoid liquids with large amounts of sugar or alcohol.
– Wear lightweight clothing in light colors.
– Wear sunscreen, as sunburn affects a body’s ability to cool down.
– Check on neighbors and relatives.
– Never leave children or pets unattended in cars, even with the windows cracked.
