In late August, a guy knocked on my door and told me he was running for town board. He asked if I had any questions for him and such. I told him no politician had ever took the time to knock on my door. A few days letter, I got a mailing from his campaign, but he has written a note on it to the effect of "glad to be the first one to come visit us and hoped he earned my vote."
I hung that note on the fridge because I thought it was funny and a clever bit of campaigning, but come election day, I remembered his name and face, and voted for him. In a country where all elections feel nation, it was pleasant to see the tiny stuff work.
(The dude won, btw.)
