Last Monday at 🕒18:10 UTC a tremor of magnitude 4.4 on the Richter scale and several aftershocks have been shaking southwest of #Naples, in #Campania,🇮🇹#Italy.
Why is this worrying?
#HypoCenter is some 10 km deep
and #EpiCenter was in the🌋#CampiFlegrei area, a zone full of🌋volcanic craters and💨#Fumaroles
This is due to a cauldron of🔥fiery magma that extends for 13 km.

View into rhyolite mountains

On the way out of the highlands, we repeatedly had great views of the complex mountain landscape of the highlands. Rhyolite valleys open up in front of mountain peaks and the sun does the rest to make the rhyolite glow.

If you look closely, you can see the plumes of steam from the fumaroles at the top right. I’m sure I’ve been there before.

Happy New Year!

This is one of the steamy #fumaroles in #Hverir/#Namafjall #geothermal area in #Myvatn, North #Iceland. I love the otherworldly landscape here. You could definitely pretend you were on Planet Mars!
