The CompassCollective emerged from the nonviolent resistance against Castor transports in the Wendland region. Time and again, pressure from the streets has proven capable of changing the political landscape.
Our roots, then, lie in civil disobedience. That is why we bring with us experience in confronting state power (both on the streets and in court).
But sea rescue should not be an act of civil disobedience, because there is a duty to rescue people in distress at sea. Yet sometimes we must ensure that the law is upheld. But when countries like Italy try to criminalize us, we have the experience to refuse to be intimidated and to fight for justice!
Racism and Europe’s border regime are completely unacceptable. That is why we are taking action! With or without the approval of nation-states.

Wer ist das CompassCollective? (english in comments)
Das CompassCollective ist aus dem gewaltfreien Widerstand gegen Castortransporte im Wendland entstanden. Denn immer wieder kann Druck auf der Straße politische Verhältnisse verändern.
Unsere Ursprünge liegen also im Zivilen Ungehorsams. Deshalb bringen wir Erfahrungen in der Auseinandersetzung mit staatlicher Macht (auf der Straße und vor Gerichten) mit.
Aber Seenotrettung sollte keine Aktion Zivilen Ungehorsams sein, denn es besteht die Pflicht, Menschen aus Seenot zu retten. Doch manchmal müssen wir dem Recht zur nötigen Geltung verhelfen. Wenn Staaten wie Italien uns dann aber doch versuchen zu kriminalisieren, dann haben wir die Erfahrung, um uns davon nicht einschüchtern zu lassen und für Gerechtigkeit zu kämpfen!
Der Rassismus und die Abschottung Europas sind absolut inakzeptabel. Deshalb handeln wir. Egal ob mit oder ohne die Zustimmung von Regierungen und Nationalstaaten.
