Someone who is dreaming of an interconnected self-configuring, delay & disruption tolerant network, owned and run by individuals for the good of all, which provides forward secrecy, privacy, digital sovereignty by default, authentication when needed, without any blockchain, middlemen, or global authority

Failure is always an option

Business idea:

Build a warehouse, with lots of silent rooms, quiet enough to hear a pin drop, collect all those pins and sell them… infinite money

The story so far:
In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Protecting young people’s online safety is incredibly important, but to do so by forcing invasive ID checks, criminalizing AI tools, and banning teens from legitimate digital spaces is not a good way out of this. Tell Congress to oppose the GUARD Act today. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2025/11/surveillance-mandate-disguised-child-safety-why-guard-act-wont-keep-us-safe
A Surveillance Mandate Disguised As Child Safety: Why the GUARD Act Won't Keep Us Safe

A new bill sponsored by Sen. Hawley (D-MO), Sen. Blumenthal (D-CT), Sen. Britt (R-AL), Sen. Warner (D-VA), and Sen. Murphy (D-CT) would require AI chatbots to verify all users’ ages, prohibit minors from using AI tools, and implement steep criminal penalties for chatbots that promote or solicit certain harms. That might sound reasonable at first, but behind those talking points lies a sprawling surveillance and censorship regime that would reshape how people of all ages use the internet.

@arrrg yeah, I think it's a loss that Apple no longer acknowledges the folks whose creativity keeps them existing. My understanding is that Apple eliminated credits after Jobs returned; a pretty significant reversal for someone who started the tradition of adding team signatures to the inside of classic Mac cases.

Given that we live in an age where technology has never been more inhuman and soulless, I can't think of a better time to bring back credits to the people who built the stuff we use.

Have you ever wished you could create a StuffIt archive on your modern Unix-based Mac with a native open source tool, so you could more easily transfer files to your retro Macs? Well... have fun.

Exactly. Once prices go up, they stay up while income stays the same, only to gradually catch up.

Embrace boredom

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, boredom would be it

The benefits of boring focus have been proven by history, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.

(The rest of this essay is left as an boring exercise to the reader)

“The advertising industry has created a massive surveillance machine that can be co-opted by law enforcement, bad actors and anyone willing to pay,” EFF’s Lena Cohen told Arizona Mirror. https://azmirror.com/2025/10/29/tpd-used-border-security-money-for-controversial-surveillance-software/

We often rely on company's back-end for encryption. But there is a way to do it directly on our systems by using GPG. Thus, encrypting the content before it is sent.
