@Wuzzy It seems to me that Wikipedia is not generally against AI output, but low quality AI output that does not follow Wikipedia’s rules.

Personally, I see a lot of potential for AI with regard to #freeculturalworks , maybe not yet for Wikipedia, but for example for music. Both ChatGPT and Udio give the users full rights over the output; so it can be put under a free license and shared or remixed like any other FCW.

• licensing is crucial if you're creating a wiki etc.
• CC BY 3.0 is an option on youtube. CC BY-SA 4.0 is used by wikipedia. not sure either is best.

Speaking of #FreeCulturalWorks: The original #MickeyMouse from the ancient #cartoon Steamboat Willie will enter the #PublicDomain in the #UnitedStates very very soon, after like 95 (?) years of being copyrighted. 🎉🎉🎉

I'm not really a Mickey fan but this moment will be of symbolic significance. I wonder what people will do with the #mouse. 😛

An example for a Free Cultural Work would be Nose Ears, the #webcomic I've been posting for >2 years. 🤓 It has been derived from another webcomic that is also a free cultural work. Nose Ears has become my biggest "side project" and is only possible because of Free Cultural Works.

For those who wonder what this weird "Approved for Free Cultural Works" means, it's this: https://freedomdefined.org/Definition

It's basically free software principles applied to #media.

In practice this translates to media licensed under CC0, CC BY or CC BY-SA (but not CC BY-NC, for example). There are other valid licenses, check the website for details.

Still, I think it would have been better if #Freesound.org would have never allowed non-libre sounds (like -NC) to begin with, but it's better than nothing.

I mean, #Wikimedia Commons has been proving for a very long time it's possible.

I just saw the new #freesound.org. And I immediately noticed one new feature I've been waiting for years: A one-click #libre #license
filter.

Before, you had to awkwardly do two searches for CC0 and CC BY separately to get all libre sounds.

But now you just need to click on "Approved for Free Cultural Works" and you get a list of all libre sounds! Very good! 👍

This will be extremely helpful for #FOSS development.
