Big news from @fairsharing! 🎉 We've just completed a major curation effort — our Object Type field is now fully populated across our entire registry.

Knowing what kind of digital object a resource handles — whether that's datasets, images, software, models, or something else — is fundamental to finding the right tools and staying compliant with funder and institutional policies.

So what does the data tell us? 📊

🗂️ Datasets dominate, with 3,811 assignments — over 50% of the total

🖼️ Images (1,082) and Models (415) are the largest non-document outputs

📄 Software Source Code policies outnumber Software Application policies 2:1, perhaps a sign that reproducibility and open code increasingly important?

📋 Data Management Plans are heavily represented in policies, which makes sense!

You can now explore object types via faceted search and advanced search on the FAIRsharing website. And for developers and tool builders, the field is fully accessible via the FAIRsharing API.

Huge thanks to our maintainers, Community Champions, and the FAIRsharing team — especially David Tomkins, Lea Girard, Ramon Granell, and Allyson Lister. 🙌

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year from @fairsharing! As we move into 2026, I'd like to celebrate the work of our #FAIRsharing maintainers and #FAIRsharingCommunityChampions over the last year, welcome our newest Champions and say "until we see you again" to our newest alumni. Find out more about them, about our work in 2025, and about our holiday closure at https://blog.fairsharing.org/?p=1086

A particular congratulations to @lnanderscience from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for being our Top Contributor for the third year running 🥳

In 2025, our 🧡 Champions 🧡 made nearly 3000 record edits, updated 502 records and added 55 new records. Averaged over the year, that’s more than 55 edits, 9 updated records and 1 new record each week!

We would also like to congratulate our 💚 Maintainer 💚 community; they are the resource managers who create and update their records with us, making sure that their content is represented fully and accurately within our registries! 345 of our maintainers made nearly 3500 edits this year on 553 records. Averaged over the year, that's more than 66 edits and 10 updated records each week!

Thank you to our entire community of users, maintainers and resource managers, tool developers, collaborators and community champions. We look forward to working more with you in 2026!

Happy New Year! As we move into 2025, I'd like to celebrate the work of our @fairsharing maintainers and #FAIRsharingCommunityChampions over the last year, and welcome our newest Champions :-)

Firstly, a particular congratulations to @lnanderscience and #KayBurrows for being our Top Contributors for 2024!

In 2024, our Champions made over 2100 edits, updated 325 records and added 64 new records. Averaged over the year, that’s more than 40 edits, 6 updated records and 1 new record each week! Additionally, 241 maintainers (many of whom visited their record multiple times) made over 2000 edits.

Our focus over the past year was on updating all records in the #policy and #database registries, which is consistent with the large increases you see in updated records in 2024 in the image below. Collaborations also helped increase our coverage, such as the one with #JoyDavidson from the DCC, who led a @fairimpact_eu support action which added both more European institutional and funder policies to our registry but also Champions to our programme (such as #ClaraParenteBoavida).

We have many exciting things planned for 2025 with and for our community, including (but not limited to) our work with our TIER2 Project and OSTrails colleagues!

FAIRsharing Community brings 2024 to a close with 4000+ record edits – FAIRsharing Blog

Did you know that almost 100 community #FAIRsharing maintainers just had their efforts with us pushed to @ORCID_Org? An example from @kylecopas - https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6590-599X.

The #FAIRsharing team feels very strongly about finding new ways to shine a light on community members contribute to their records. In our latest blog post (https://blog.fairsharing.org/?p=940), find out all of the ways our fantastic record maintainers are attributed, and how our first batch of attributions to ORCID went in 2024.

#DatabasesDemystified Part 4: Sustainability and Preservation

In our final example, we see how many database records in #FAIRsharing have either #Sustainability or #DataPreservation plans: only 8%!Why is this surprising, and what can we learn from this? Find out more over on our blog post (with all examples) at https://blog.fairsharing.org/?p=868

Thank you to our @fairsharing team and our #FAIRsharingCommunityChampions for their curation and technical work to be able to create these examples

RDA 22nd Plenary Meeting – Fully Virtual

I had a fantastic time yesterday with #KayBurrows as we had a one-day "@fairsharing Retreat in the North", a.k.a. a day physically working together 🎉

Here we are taking a well-earned cake break after a morning discussing the complexities around #FAIR enabling (or otherwise!) #DataPolicies and curating in the #FAIRsharing policy registry. You can find and filter them yourselves at https://fairsharing.org/policies/ or use our Assistant (in beta) at https://assist.fairsharing.org
