Research Data Management (RDM) and Open Data compliance have become core requirements of the global research ecosystem, driven by funder mandates, publisher policies, regulatory frameworks, and expectations around research integrity and reproducibility. With major public and private funders now requiring structured data management planning and data sharing under the principle โas open as possible, as closed as necessary.โ At the same time, publishers are increasingly mandating data availability statements and repository deposition as conditions of publication. These forces position RDM as essential research infrastructure rather than an optional best practice. Effective compliance requires understanding and applying both FAIR principles, open data appropriately and accurate metadata.
