9th Ave International Food Festival, one more in the books.
Yesterday, as I left the community cupboard tent, they said “Enjoy the festival“ & I said “The king’s festival??” & I got a laugh (Into the Woods reference).
Today, a man called back to his friend Stella & as I passed I yelled “Stellaaa!” & a woman in the tent threw her head back in laughter (Streetcar ref).
Favorite sighting: sidewalk chalk art “Immigrants Make America Great”.

BENDY STRAW! They give you a bendy straw w your (strawberry) margarita (near 50th)!
The (chicken) empanada was only three $, and I got the spicy sauce this time (yesterday was beef & green sauce) but it wasn’t spicy at all.
The margarita (only five $) after the beer at 53rd was a nice contrast.

One of my discoveries was the 9th Ave Food Festival apron, only $5, silk screened in three colors.
While I wait for my fried Snickers (they’ll batter & fry a Twinkies cake instead if you want, five bucks), I snapped a pic of it w my draft lager ($7).
Great weather for day drinking and people watching.

Until 5 today! 10 wings = $15 for Boy Scouts from New York State, sponsored by Westway Diner. 43rd I think, at 9th.
They told me it was battery powered, all three spits turn simultaneously - only available from international import, via Greece, she said. Super cool looking.

They did an article on me as the featured artist for Friday Night Market in my local newspaper.

I wish I could share it, but it’s for subscribers only, apparently, and it doesn’t qualify for a gift link.

Regardless, it’s a nicely written piece, and it introduces me to the community in a way that is really authentic, and fits into the aesthetic of local-first.

Between this and the poster I made for the event, I’m pretty stoked today! I guess they’ll be selling it as a limited edition print at their info booth, which is honestly a great way for them to raise money—the Humboldt Made organization has been awesome to me, personally, so I’m happy to give back somehow.
