...please lets remember that "#ice" is just the newest rebranding of "#immigration #enforcement" with a history that goes back at least as far as the #chinese #exclusionact of 1882 which was run by the uskkk customs under the #treasury department. (note this direct link to #capitalism..hmmm)

in 1891 came the immigration act ran by the "superintendent of immigration", still under the treasury department....which became the #ins (immigration and naturalization service) in 1933...then in 2003 the enforcement parts of customs and ins were repackaged into a new devil under the #dhs (department of homeland security)...(aka the excuse to abduct, torture, and deport all brown people).

in other words...this sh¡ts been going on unchecked for a looooong azz time and has taken many "invisible" lives.

...and yes. #canada has its own similar "ice" history that is just as old and participated in the chinese exclusion act...(aka they are also run by supremacists who h8 immigrants when they are no longer deemed profitable for the state).

Today is Canada Day - and the centennial of the Chinese Exclusion Act, which effectively banned Chinese immigration to Canada between 1923 and 1947. As we confront and remember of this ugly racist history, let's be sure we also learn from it. Happy today to share a column I wrote for the Edmonton Journal on the meaning of this commemoration. Happy to be back, albeit briefly, in the Journal's pages. https://edmontonjournal.com/opinion/columnists/paula-simons-100-years-after-the-chinese-exclusion-act-lets-learn-from-history #CanadaDay #ExclusionAct #Humiliation Day #Edmonton #Canada #July1
