June 25th is the People's MOU Day of Action! The Liberal government signed an MOU with Danielle Smith to ensure that the interests of multi-billionaire oil corporations are protected. It's time for them to sign a deal with the people who elected them: to protect OUR communities, climate, and future!

It is absolutely reprehensible that our provincial government continues to use their power and authority to attack any political leader in municipal government based solely on their ideological position, for not being on the Conservative spectrum. This is NOT a government which represents the constituents who elected them. This is NOT a government who represents Albertans. This is NOT a government that respects any other democratically elected jurisdictions. This is a government who represents only those who share the same Conservative views as them, and anybody else is an enemy to be removed through authoritarian tactics. Many of us are not represented by our elected government, but are enemies of it by their design and not ours. But this "Us vs Them" classification doesn't end at YOUR political position. Look at the anti-immigrant October referendum questions, the anti-trans legislations, the queer censorship legislations, the anti-disability legislations, the anti-worker legislations, the anti-bike legislations. Your ethnic background, your gender identity, your lack of ownership, and even your preference to sustainability all makes you "enemies of the state" because YOUR EXISTENCE DOES NOT FIT THEIR IDEOLOGY. I hope you all realize what a gross betrayal this is to both democracy and the Alberta people.

Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas wins Round One of bitter Twitter window-rattle battle  - Alberta Politics

But Alberta Premier Danielle Smith sends letter telling Calgary City Council to roll over or the province will step in It’s not over, but Round One of last weekend’s intergovernmental noise bylaw fracas – which channelling the late Dr. Seuss, we might call a bitter Twitter window-rattle battle – goes to Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas.  […]

Alberta Politics

Folks ask me why I don't drive.

It's because it's incredibly expensive in Alberta.

Fees, taxes and insurance: it's not just the exorbitant costs of a monthly car note, but this province that makes it more expensive.

#ableg Thank you @robsonfletcher for one more data point. :(

Rachel was right.

Listened to this podcast tonight.

It's illustrative, especially since internal conservative politics are a, if not *the*, driving force of Alberta politics right now. #ableg #Conservatism

It made sobering listening. A lot of things were said in an unsaid way. #cdnpoli

Louder, for those in the back, who haven't been paying attention: it's absolutely reasonable to address serious Albertan grievances seriously. #ableg

And Journalist Jen Gerson is totally right: it's beyond fallacious to even pretend that separatism can seriously resolve those grievances. #UnitedForCanada #VoteToStay

The Sherwood Park News' lame attempt to defend the UCP's breach of the Canada Health Act to deny Albertans proper access to healthcare, especially in light of their current referendum questions to totally cut off immigrant residents from public health, fails miserably to show the UCP as anything but intentionally cruel and heartless.

A town of less than 10,000 just rallied more than 680 people who now have standing in the application for a 1.4 GW data centre and thermal power plant across the street - literally - from their homes.

Olds is really showing up. This is going to be an expensive application for the company involved, but if you look at their public notification and consultation program, or lack thereof, I don’t think anyone will be surprised that it has come to this.

My latest update has just been posted!

Application Delayed as 680 Local Residents Gain Standing on Olds, Alberta Data Centre Proposal

Alberta’s utility regulator has granted intervener status to more than 680 individuals in the small town of Olds, writing that they may be directly and adversely affected by its decision on a proposed 1.4-gigawatt (GW) power plant and data centre within the town limits.
