A comparison with Japan in 1944 suggests Iran will resist fiercely and try to prolong the war to preserve its regime, while the United States risks strategic failure without a clear plan for victory. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/commentary/2026/03/12/japan/iran-today-like-1944-japan/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #commentary #japan #donaldtrump #iran #japan #pacificwar #potsdamdeclaration #us #dec7 #imperialjapan #israel #venezuela #emperorhirohito #alikhamenei #worldwarii #middleeast
Today’s Iran is like Japan in 1944

Iran, like Imperial Japan, is mounting what could be called fanatical and tenacious resistance against overwhelmingly powerful U.S. military attacks.

Mistigram: For this date in last year’s ADVENT23 #AdventCalendar, @grymmjack drew an #ANSIart portrait of ‘Bumble’, the Abominable Snowmonster of the North, from 1964’s Rankin/Bass Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer TV special.

December 7, 2023

On the sunny Sunday morning of December 7, 1941, Messman Doris Miller had served breakfast aboard the USS West Virginia, stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and was collecting laundry when the first of nine Japanese torpedoes hit the ship. In the deadly confusion, Miller reported to an officer, who told him to help move the ship’s mortally wounded captain off the bridge. Unable to move him far, Miller pulled the captain to shelter. Then another officer ordered Miller to pass ammunition to him as he started up one of the two abandoned anti-aircraft guns in front of the conning tower.

Day 7

Sansome has taken a turn for the worse, so is resting today. Hollywood needed some water to keep refreshed.

Unfortunately Hollywood got over zealous with the water and got trapped inside the cup dispenser.

Will Sansome notice him missing or will he be trapped over night?

Probably, January 6th is too close to #PresidentsDay to become a holiday. But...

#JAN6, #DEC7 and #SEPT11 are #DaysThatLiveInInfamy. Each bearing the equivalence of unprovoked attack; Violence on American soil by hostile groups.

Two of these triggered protracted war. We should have seen all three coming.

#Terrorism and #DomesticTerrorism demand justice. No matter how long it takes, or we will evaporate as a nation founded on inclusion.

> About an hour before Pearl Harbor, Japan attacked Malaya. That was a real invasion. The attack on Pearl Harbor... military base on a colony of the United States... on the scale of atrocities, attacking the military base on the colony is not the highest rank. The big Japanese atrocities.. the major ones, the invasion of China, the rape of Nanking, the atrocities in Manchuria, and so on, had passed.
