They did gain a lot of support in the countries that they invaded, like #Indonesia. A lot of the #AsianNationalists supported them. It was only when they showed themselves to be so utterly brutal that they lost most but not all of that support. They were regarded in essence as liberators, getting rid of the white man who’d been on our neck forever. So it’s a complicated story.
