Maybe it's just my feed, but the concern trolling seems kind of suffocating the past couple of weeks. It seems like anyone posting anything potentially positive/hopeful about resistance or solidarity or whatever has a 50/50 chance of someone else pointing out all the (real or imagined) problems.

So here's my suggestion, and what I'll try to follow:

If something seems likely to have a net positive effect, don't drape your wet blanket over it.

If you want to comment about something that seems to have a net positive effect, please make sure you have a concrete suggestion for improving it, not just a criticism about its imperfections. This is so that negative comments don't slow or stop something that could be helpful.

The suggestion above is a little extreme (for me), and I'm not 100% comfortable with it, but it seems sensible right now and I'm going to try to live it: if something might do good, even just a little, leave it alone unless you have something clear and helpful to offer as an improvement.

If something has a net negative effect, of course, then it should be criticized, with or without a clear, helpful suggested improvement. Some things are perhaps not rehabilitatable; more importantly, if something presented as helpful is actually harmful, it shouldn't be done.

If you're worried you won't get a vigorous debate experience under these rules (which are just my own, BTW; I'm not your boss), don't worry. There are still plenty of areas with incomplete information about how best to proceed. There are different plausible predictions for effectiveness, and those discussions are probably good to have, and to keep open. I think, anyway.

That's my bit. If something seems good, on balance, and all you have to offer is "Actually there are problems with this," then maybe keep quiet, for now. Let it flourish, let it bloom. Blow a breath of encouragement under its tiny wings.

I had a story in the feed, but it was from #TheAtlantic and upon #reading it before posting it, shows that while The Atlantic thinks they are being successful at hiding it by engaging in #ConcernTrolling, they are still blatantly transphobic.

The ultimate solution was quite simple to close the browser tab with their story, and skip it.
