Extra #centrosomes are initially anti-#tumorigenic but why?
Irmina Garcia-Carpio, Andreas Villunger et al find that through #PIDDosome activation, they not only induce #p53 responses, but also #NFkB signaling to increase #immunogenicity of cancer cells

cilium–centrosome axis in coupling cell cycle exit and cell fate

Summary: The cilium–centrosome complex regulates cell polarity and cell division, but does it help cells decide their fate? We discuss how this complex can influence cells to proliferate, enter quiescence or differentiate.

We know that #centrosomes are not required for mitotic division, so what are they good for?

New preprint from grad student KC Farrell shows that having two duplicated centrosomes at the beginning of #mitosis facilitates rapid bipolar spindle formation. In the absence of centrosomes there is a checkpoint-mediated delay that is required to give enough time to sort things out and assemble the spindle.

Hello #ScienceMastodon community!

I am a professor at Rockefeller University in #NYC and dean of the graduate school. Interested in all things #science, but especially #CellBiology, #centrosomes, #cilia, #CellCycle, the #cytoskeleton and #microscopy.

I also want to make science a better place for students and postdocs, and am interested in science education, outreach, publishing and policy. #ScienceEducation
