Cardiocrinum, Giant Himalayan Lily
It is a challenging plant to grow, and flowering does not occur until the bulb has been in its location for up to 8 years. It dies after blooming, but produces offsets… which will then take another 8 years to come into bloom. And it truly is giant, stems are 9’ tall.

I managed to grow it once!

This grove is at the magnificent Seattle Arboretum. The fragrance was divine.

• art museums (the MoMA is one of them)
• arboretums - this is where you’ll find me most spring and fall weekends
• libraries - especially big fancy ones with nice corners & little drawers to look in & a great kids section
• bookshops - preferably with a good magazine and zine selection

That’s it. Those are my favourite places to be.
