Programma ufficiale
Il presidente americano arriverà a Pechino mercoledì sera, ha detto alla stampa Anna Kelly, vice portavoce dell'esecutivo americano. Una cerimonia di benvenuto e un incontro bilaterale con Xi Jinping si terranno giovedì mattina, seguiti da una visita al Tempio del Cielo giovedì pomeriggio e da un banchetto di Stato la sera.

I due presidenti prenderanno il tè insieme, poi faranno un pranzo di lavoro venerdì, prima che Trump torni a Washington.

“At the invitation of President Xi Jinping, President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump, will undertake a state visit to China from May 13th to 15th,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Dates and Delays
China had long avoided confirming the dates of the visit by the Republican billionaire, as is common practice for official visits and even more so due to the uncertainty surrounding the war in the Middle East. The White House had initially announced the American President’s trip to China for late March-early April.

Iranian Crisis and Global Tensions
But Trump had postponed the trip to mid-May, saying he wanted to prioritize managing the Iranian crisis. The visit by the President of the United States comes at a time when bilateral disputes are numerous, from US restrictions on technologies towards China to tariffs, passing through Taiwan or the South China Sea.

Summit Agenda
Trade, tariffs and artificial intelligence will be at the center of discussions of this visit which will last from Wednesday to Friday, the White House said.

The American President will arrive in Beijing Wednesday evening, said Anna Kelly, Vice Spokesperson for the American Executive, to the press.
