when you're 80% through a subplotline you're not sure even belongs in the book. gah, fuck it, this is what drafting is for. we'll re-evaluate when we come back around for significant edits.
In creating a book, there is a portion of time necessary to pay when not a whole lot gets onto the page, but a whole bunch gets into the author's head. I always feel so unproductive during that portion, but no matter how I try, I can't bypass it.
Currently absorbing and feeling guilty that my word doc isn't advancing noticeably.
"First draft, worst draft." This is a #writing axium I live by. There is always a point in the 1st draft of a novel when I think to myself, "Oh, no. This prose is awful." Inevitably, there will also come a point where I realize I have to scrap half of the plot for...reasons...which can derail any momentum I had.
Then I remember: First draft, worst draft. And I plow ahead, brute force.
Just get it down and trust the process.
