Alpha Protocol is janky, yes. You can turn the pistol into an overpowered sniper weapon where you can chain headshots, also yes. It has a cool musical number, again yes.
It has your BFF, Steven Heck.
The reactivity of this game is still hard to surpass. It's a game that always makes you feel like You're are playing it the way it was intended. You get to the end and say "big deal, I just did what they expected." Play again. Make the opposite choices. You are still rewarded. The game still feels complete. Make random choices and get called out for being an inconsistent loose canon.
Play as a recruit / rookie for special naive options.
Play as someone who thinks he's a James Bond but mostly gets reactions from the ladies like he's Austin Powers sans mojo.
If you don't already own it, buy it.
Hell, buy it again.
Edit: I've owned this have for many years on Steam. You can't buy it on Steam any longer. It's been delisted which is why the GOG news is so important.
I was able to install the Steam version on my SteamDeck and it plays really well. It was always designed for playing with a controller, especially the hacking and lockpicking mini games.
It did default to mouse and keyboard so I had to use the touch screen to turn on controller mode and I don't see a way to remap buttons.
It supports and detected the correct screen ratio.
Anyway, I'm about an hour in as Recruit Thorton taking every "I'm a newbie option" and letting my terrible first pass times on the training stick.
I still recommend it.
I've never tried GOG on SteamDeck, so I'm not sure how that works.
