#Socmed addict but working on it. Four years unemployed per 2024 but still going strong (by mooching off of my family & friends of course). Very occasionally depressed but not infectiously so I promise. On the Mastodon side of the Fediverse since 2017-ish.

Also I have decided to participate in the Tootfinder opt-in full-text federated text-search project per March 2023.

The story of photographic collage artist Richard G. Ramsdell reminds me of this (perhaps once very Internet famous) Internet koan from futurist and science-fiction author Cory Doctorow (of Electronic Frontier Foundation and Creative Commons fame) that goes something like,

"The biggest threat to authors today (in the early 2000's) is not theft of work, but of falling into obscurity."

More details on Richard G. Ramsdell and the "Cooper Family Photo/Falling Body Creepy Pasta" Internet creepy photo meme:

I think I need to go on a one-week total social-media fast to even begin to consider creating artworks again. Nevermind creating any meaningful ones.

Throwback from 2023:

As has been well-established for quite some time now, the problem with social media is mainly sociological not technological. Even technological adjustments to social media sorely need to be firmly grounded on good sociological analyses.

โ€ฆAnd anyone can distrust and/or vilify Marshall McLuhan all they want, but that doesn't change the fact that we humans cannot not communicate, and that communication by default mostly err towards miscommunication.

And the solution to the problem of rampant miscommunication, /is not/ to stop communicating, but rather to communicate better.

Social media is now so broken because most social media users can no longer have an honest and real conversation with another social media user anymore. Not while being complete strangers to each other.

Complete strangers can no longer trust each other on the Internet anymore. Not even in a parasocial context.

Breaking this global sociological trend is a very real, modern challenge in this current "post-truth" information age.

This videoโ€”published just one week but I only watched just nowโ€”was how I learned that Finale was finally discontinued last year. Wow.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yqaon6YHzaU

I'm not a music student, I studied communications in college, but I did dabble in a little bit of music back then and I once used Finale to write down one single little, /very amateurish/ classical guitar etude in Finale that I had messed around with on my guitar for years by then at the time. The finale file might still be somewhere among my old hard drives & old PCs, might even be somewhere in my Google Drive or MS OneDrive or DropBox or something. I doubt I could convert it to MusicXML to rescue it at this time, even if I could find it again.

Anyways, loved the video. Very surreal. One hour long fair warning.

(And yes my use of em dashes in this post is intentional.)
