Councilmember David NewmanEvery year, local ham radio operators conduct 24-hour “field day” exercises in Hidden Valley, at the Reagan Library, and all across North America. These exercises demonstrate that amateur radio continues to operate even if we lose power and cell service, a key consideration given the need to maintain communications during emergencies.
Field Day is also a lot of fun. Newcomers can learn about ham radio and watch experienced operators try to make as many contacts as possible during the 24-hour drill. With a lot of coaching, I even made two contacts – one in Florida and one in Pennsylvania!
