๐ŸŒŸ "An Independent Guide to Quality Care for Autistic People" ๐ŸŒŸ

Please all look at and share this fantastic resource produced by The National Autistic Taskforce.

The NAT is "wholly run and managed by autistic people and is funded through an open grant from The Shirley Foundation. This guide is authored entirely by autistic people with extensive collective knowledge and experience of social care provision to autistic people."

I'm aware of some of the challenges of being #AuADHD, but would love to know some of the benefits and advantages from those who feel them :)

I'm only #ADHD so don't have personal experience of both

Calling all healthcare professionals...

Are you aware that many people, especially those who are Autistic or otherwise neurodivergent, have sensory processing differences?

They (we) will often experience the sensory world differently, meaning they might have much more intense or much less intense experiences and reactions to sensory input from the environment than others.

This can be amazing in lots of ways (joy from vibrant colours, lovely intense smells from flowers that others don't experience...)

But it can also be very challenging in other ways (for example feeling nauseous from others' perfume, pain from bright florescent lights, pain and high anxiety from loud beeping machines or low electricity hums).

If you work in or run a clinic, ward or department with in or outpatients, chances are many will experience some level of discomfort from the sensory environment there.

Many (but not all) of these aspects can be adapted to be pleasant for everyone.
Light bulbs could be changed to be less bright, or dimmed, quiet rooms offered where possible, ear plugs/headphones offered.

You could ask each person if there are any aspects of the clinic/ward environment that is bothering them, and see what can be done about it.

Sometimes just listening and acknowledging there's even a problem is validating and reassuring.

Calling all occupational therapists ......

Would love to find you all our there on Mastodon.

Please all those interested in occupational therapy, in any way, *follow* the group I've created for our community:
@occtherapy

If you put this tag (@ OccTherapy @ a.gup.pe) no spaces, in all your OT related posts/toots that you want to share, it will automatically be added to that group's timeline, and appear in the feed of those following the group!

Such a great way to share information amongst our community.

Please share this around, as it will become more useful, the more people add to it ๐Ÿ˜Š
