I’ve been thinking about this a bit lately, & with regards to change.

Autistic people tend to dislike or cope poorly with change. But ADHDers often love & instigate change. And I’m both. (Another reason why I dispute the categorisation of neurodivergence.)

I like change! Except when I don’t and find it distracting or unnerving or discombobulating. And sometimes, lack of change bores me & I lose interest.

Sometimes I have bursts of energy where I will think of lots of great ideas for things to do.

And the now the thought of having to swap my orthotics out of one pair of shoes into another is exhausting.

Dentist.,

Check up, no work needed! Hurrah!

For years I’ve convinced myself that going to the dentist isn’t a problem, that I’m a big brave girl, even as every muscle fibre tensed & I fought to relax my jaw enough for the dentist to do their job.

Now I try to remember to take a stim toy. I forgot today, & instead of toughing it out, I stopped them & asked for a stress ball. (Full points to the nurse who understood me in spite of me wearing one of those awful things designed to flange your lips out. 😁)

And in typical ADHD fashion, I put off thinking about it today, couldn’t find my asthma puffer for reflux related cough ( which I haven’t needed for ages), didn’t have time for my back stretches, forgot my HEPA filter, & then the garage door control on my keys didn’t work. So naturally I threw them on the living room floor & they slid under the couch.

Grabbed partner’s keys & got to dentists just as receptionist was ringing to check if I was on my way.

Being incredibly disciplined & masking heavily was the only way I managed to perform as a teacher. I was often the last to leave work in my year level, staying back to meticulously plan & prepare for the next day.

Could I have managed if I’d known & accepted that I was neurodivergent? I suspect not, at least not without lots of accommodations, which might not have been willingly supplied.

Finally stabalised on 60mg of Elvanse. #adhd #auadhd Pretty sure I do a bit better with 100mg of caffeine on top of that first thing. 😛

Not Coffee though, coffee gives me a headache but actual caffeine doesn't?

I'm in a things not thoughts frame of mind this morning so I'm moving stuff around in the Writing Hut trying to make some usable space. The WH is the repository for everything from everywhere with nowhere to go &, every now & then, I have to tackle the ensuing chaos

I've tidied some book shelves & shifted some clobber off the worktop to reveal ... space! Yay!

Time for a coffee & a warm up in the kitchen

I had 2 ADHD tax events on a recent holiday, one of which cost me money. I’d researched hotels on an app, with various dates & destinations. When I went back later to book, it booked for the following week. I reckon it was a fault in the app, but didn’t notice & lost my money.

I had booked 2 car ferry trips & noted the times in my calendar. Still mixed them up & missed the first trip. Burst into tears. Adult child took control (has lots of experience with this sort of thing) & got us on the next ferry. No cost.

I’ve found this type of thing more likely since finishing work. Presumably my autistic traits compensated more effectively back then. Whereas my oldest has always been disorganised with personal stuff, but manages their work life like a professional. (Which they are.)

@calcifer That is something I wish more people understood and that neurodiversity is very complex and some people are able to cobble together a way of functioning with it, but its also possible to have multiple conditions that make each other worse. I have a buddy that is #AuADHD and he describes his internal hell to me as "Part of me absolutely needs the thing that the other part of me is utterly repulsed by. I need an organized space with a strict schedule, the ADHD side of me says fuck that"

Me: I'm too sleepy to play a game… zzzing at the computer…

Me: quits game

Also me: it's a wonderful moment to self-host new software!
