Who doesn’t love the gear acquisition bug?? May have treated myself to a #Linhof Technika to save lugging the heavier thing around for some quicker shots. So far I love it but the lens it came with has a few limitations and some really nice quirks.

Test photos on expired film and it’s come out nice. The Carisbrooke castle photo is on my trusty but heavy AF monorail Toyo. Must. Develop. The. Slide. Film. I keep blaming the delay in processing on needing a million bottles for the chemicals (it’s not cheap, doesn’t keep and mixes in the wrong final amount for me). That’s my excuse, and I’m sticking with it, and it’s nothing to do with a total loss of confidence in myself on that front.

Must remember focussing loupe though. That’s essential. 🤦

First test actual film photo from the large format. I'd hoped to have a more interesting photo but the tide was high and too rough to get to where I wanted with the intention of getting some halation effect on the film.

It's also the first lunch break I've been able to take in a long while, so it is what it is. Loving it so far and need to learn more, make some adjustments to the bellows frame as I accidentally knocked the front standard giving a little wierd dpeth of field when it should have been locked.

Oh, and developing. No more sloppy habits! clean fingers and clear dust before scanning in. 🤦

Nerdy stuff:

Spikes

These photograms / organic stains were influenced by the escalating number of homeless people in Brighton. It's hard to engage with an individual if you have nothing to say so I looked at the ground, as many do, and found flowers and fauna penetrating the pavement crust. I found a glimmer of optimism there. Seemingly a very fragile life can grow and thrive in a hostile environment if given even a tiny amount of sunshine. I made photograms / organic stains using the plants by pressing them into large format film. After a week I’d shine a little blue light onto them before developing and scanning the negative.

@jscaux I was "gifted" one of those in the late 1990s. Sadly as a poor recent graduate and lack of space I sold it on. I still use Jobo though to tank process my #120 and #5x4 film. I used to make a home made concoction called D25, and recently switched to Xtol in a 2 bath solution with Sodium Metaborate. I had been contemplating switching to Pyro, but found for environmental reasons tried X-tol first. So far the results are being delivered, especially with skies.
For those still doing #filmphotography - what about it makes it worth the inflexibility, inconvenience and expense? Also what format(s) are you shooting? I'm in two minds whether to sell of all my #5x4 #largeformatcamera equipment or not...
