Wisconsin Public Radio did a feature on the Lake Pepin 3-Speed Tour.

I’m in one of the photos, but your “Where’s Waldo” skills better be sharp to find me. A few good friends in other photos.

‘Nutters’ bring pre-war English bike touring to the Wisconsin countryside

The Lake Pepin 3-Speed Tour is a way for cyclists to explore the food, drink and views along the Mississippi River — while reconnecting with old friends and an old way of life.

@ascentale @bikenite Last Friday, I was all a-tooter about my 6-day tour on a 1961 Raleigh Sports. See #3SpeedTour for highlights.

This past week, hardly any cycling. I chased warblers on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Today, volunteered with Urban Boatbuilders as a stern paddler, in a celebratory launch of canoes built by special needs young adults. @bikenite @ascentale

Just returned to Minneapolis area from a 6-day tour on my 1961 Raleigh Sports 3-speed.

Saturday-Sunday was the Lake Pepin 3-Speed Tour. Monday-Thursday, a buddy & I toured the Root River trails in SE Minnesota.

We slow-rolled ~220 miles over 6 days, taking many breaks & enjoying scenery, culture, & food along the way. See #3SpeedTour for updates from the ride.

I spend 51 weeks each year looking forward to this ride! #BikeNite a1

@cainmark Yes we did. Our butts weren’t ready for six straight days of “long rides,” but we persevered and enjoyed the heck out of the green tunnel that gently meanders through the Root River valley. The migrating songbirds were out in force. We heard many, even saw a few.

Nice to have met you too. Good to have a human connection with a Mastodon friend. You have an interesting life there in Rushford.

Day 7: drive back to St. Paul to drop off my riding buddy at the Amtrak station. Roy takes the train here from Montana specifically for the Lake Pepin 3-Speed Tour and any add-on cycling we conjure. Stopped at 3 bookstores: Fair Trade in Red Wing; Magers & Quinn and Birchbark Books and Native Arts in Minneapolis. All are recommended.

No cycling today. #3SpeedTour

Day 4 of the extended #3SpeedTour. 44 miles on the Root River Trail system, southeastern Minnesota

Wrapped up the 2026 #3SpeedTour.

Days 1&2: Lake Pepin 3-Speed Tour, ~76 miles over two days, with ~100 nutters riding English 3-speeds.

Then repositioned to the Root River Trail system:
Day 3: Preston to Houston, Minnesota
Day 4: Houston to Preston
Day 5: Preston-Fountain-Preston
Day 6: Preston-Harmony-Preston

Preston to Houston, Minnesota today, on my extended 3–speed tour. #3SpeedTour

After cycling through morning showers, I went straight through to the finish without stopping for the tea brew-up in Lake City, or the tobacco light-up in Old Frontenac. These are traditional extended breaks with much socialization, but the possibility of showers again in the afternoon motivated us to push on.

That wraps up the official #3SpeedTour 2026 edition.

In Preston, Minnesota now for a few days riding the Root River Trail system including spur trails.

Tricycles: (1) Artwork hanging inside the Anderson House Hotel, Wabasha, Minnesota featuring an antique tricycle. (2 & 3) A gentleman on a modern, recumbent, electric-assist tricycle flying a Union Jack flag and a LOW VISION flag. The rider is elderly, and has impaired vision, but still rides on the #3SpeedTour
