Supporting Small Businesses and Sustainable Transit: A Look at Raleigh’s April 21 Events

The City of Raleigh continues to strengthen its connection with the community through a diverse slate of events and programs designed to support small businesses and promote sustainable, people-focused city planning. Monday, April 21st, featured two key events that highlight the city’s forward-thinking initiatives: Legal Lift for Small Businesses and the Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Commission (BPAC) meeting.

Legal Lift for Small Businesses: City Connect Series

Kicking off the morning at 9:30 a.m., the Legal Lift for Small Businesses workshop welcomed local entrepreneurs as part of the City Connect Series. Held in partnership with legal and business development experts, this workshop aimed to demystify legal challenges that many small business owners face. Topics ranged from business structure and compliance to contracts and intellectual property.

This event is part of Raleigh’s broader mission to empower local businesses through education, resources, and direct support, recognizing that thriving small businesses are the backbone of a resilient economy.

Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Commission (BPAC)

Later in the evening, the Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Commission (BPAC) convened at 6 p.m. to discuss ongoing and future initiatives for making Raleigh a more walkable and bike-friendly city. These monthly meetings are a platform for residents, planners, and advocates to shape policy and provide input on transportation infrastructure.

Key discussion points often include new bike lane developments, pedestrian safety improvements, and efforts to expand accessibility for non-motorized transport. With Raleigh’s population steadily growing, such meetings are essential for ensuring inclusive, sustainable urban planning.

Stay Connected

Residents are encouraged to stay informed and engaged by following the city’s official channels under DoRaleigh, where regular updates on events, public input opportunities, and city initiatives are shared.

Raleigh continues to set a strong example of how local government can engage meaningfully with its community—supporting economic development while prioritizing a healthier, more sustainable future.
