Reminder to anyone who supports the NYT staff's labor action: unless a miracle happens and we get a contract deal by midnight, we will be walking out for one day tomorrow, Dec. 8.
We'll be asking supportive readers to abstain from visiting/using NYT offerings for the day, midnight to midnight. That means articles. That means multimedia. That means... Wordle.
I know. That one pains me too. But maybe the word will be like LYMPH and we'll all be lucky to miss it.
Good morning! A post just rolled across my fedi-timeline saying not to post about politics on Mastodon, so I'm here to remind you that:
1 "politics" refers to decision-making about how to live together in groups
2 choosing to not participate in political discussion is saying you support the status quo, and is a political stance
3 abstaining from politics because you feel safe from its impacts is a privilege and a choice to abandon your more vulnerable neighbours

I didn't put my universal funding ideas into that paper, because they were too radical - the Matthew effect is too entrenched to be dissolved at the moment.
From an applicant perspective in our current environment, it seemed to me like crowd funding would be the least-effort approach for ECRs and women that are struggling with traditional funding sources.
