Northern Lights in H-alpha (vertical shot)

I wanted to see what the northern lights would look like when shot with a camera modified to capture visible light and the h-alpha spectrum. This is the result. Pretty sweet!

Holy moly!! Lightning caught mid-strike as it hits a tree. ⚡ 🌳 😲

I hope the photographer was using an extremely long-range telephoto lens, as lightning will travel along root systems, which can extend some distance away depending upon the type of tree.

Vertical photograph; click to see the full strike and whole tree (or what's left of it).

Photographer — Debbie Parker of West Virginia.

If they cared about kids they’d ban guns instead of books.
If this goes how I expect it to go, get ready for another big surge in Mastodon's popularity.
A good percentage of my friends are Nazis. That percentage is zero; that’s a good percentage of Nazi friends to have.
My semester starts tomorrow and I’m absolutely not ready for it mentally.
Currently reading “It Didn’t Start With You” by #markwolynn and BOY is it sending me. I didn’t know anything about my maternal grandfather until I hit my 30s — either about his time(s) in jail OR about his multiple children with random women — and I truly wonder what kind of trauma he created for my mother, and how much of that was passed down to me (via nurture OR nature) #bookstadon #trauma
After watching the House try and select a Speaker, I am feeling better about faculty meetings.

I've been struggling with this myself, so I thought I'd repeat it for other people that might be dealing with the same thing:

Not every hobby needs to be a project. Not everything needs to be a whole *thing* with a goal and an endpoint. It's okay to not finish something. It's okay to pick up something for a bit, explore it, start making something, and then drop it without making any "progress".

Productivity is capitalist bullshit that doesn't need to infect your free time too. Have some fun

Maybe I’m weird, but I *like* the dry shampoo that leaves the white powder marks! The other kind just leaves my greasy hair smelling nice. It’s just hair perfume.
