Stella is a former biotech writer who five years ago transitioned to writing whatever she wants. She leads writing workshops and advocates for older women. Her books include "Aphrodite's Pen: The Power of Writing Erotica after Midlife," and her debut novel at age 68, "Brilliant Charming Bastard." Find her blogs about women's creativity, health and culture at www.stellafosse.com.
My end-of-year newsletter features previews of upcoming blog topics including the monetization of grey hair, the badly named "Obesity Paradox," and the advent of the menopause gold rush. When women past midlife said we wanted companies to pay attention, exploitation was not what we had in mind. #womenempoweringwomen #agepowerfully #agewell #cronewisdom #womenpastmidlife #renegadewomen

This is *not* the way scientific papers typically begin:
_________________________

We are running out of time. Ecosystems across the planet are being destroyed at an accelerating rate. The life sciences – once a field dedicated to the study of living systems and our interactions with them – are increasingly becoming sciences of the dead. Up to one million species are currently threatened with extinction, many of them within decades.

It's a very good sign, however, an indication that at least some scientists are now ready to speak boldly and unequivocally about the greatest emergency our species has ever faced.

Point of View: The biospheric emergency calls for scientists to change tactics

The ever-worsening climate and ecological crises calls for life scientists to engage in advocacy and activism to galvanise governments and the public into action.

I haven’t read then in a while and they are for kids, but they may be worth trying. The first book is the most famous, but I like a few of the others better, like The Magician’s Nephew and Voyage of the Dawn Treader. There are some problematic parts, definitely, but you can judge those for yourself. As for reading them as an adult, here’s Lewis’s dedication in the first book. If you read them, let me know if you’d suggest I revisit them myself 🙂

My next major project will be a historical romance between a female Arab merchant and a Tang dynasty general in Chang'An.

Doing #research is enlightening because a lot of the sources are "Arab merchants exist and we tax them" but not much else. At the very least, I do have some interesting Arabic Travel journals to read through.

To anyone else researching for a #novel, how has it been going?

The Seamstress Who Solved the Ancient Mystery of the Argonaut, Pioneered the Aquarium, and Laid the Groundwork for the Study of Octopus Intelligence

“I armed myself with patience and courage, and only after several months managed to dissolve my doubts and see my research crowned with happy confirmation.”

Hey friends - I am in Antarctica with extremely slow and limited internet and I have a book coming out this year that I'd normally be posting more about because pre-orders are *critical* to a book's success.

Help me get the word out?

Populism coupled with increasing assaults on scientific integrity have dramatically shifted the political landscape & contributed to geopolitical instability.

The policy ramifications are yet to be understood, but anti-intellectualism has threatened public health, stymied environmental progress, influenced funding priorities & sculpted the rhetoric of local, state & national politics.

@[email protected] My six-year-old told me she wanted to write a 2nd-grade chapter book. I agreed to help her. With my professional background in #book #publishing, I knew writing a book as a team would be a challenge. We would have to agree on the approach, divide the work, and execute. Plus, one of us was a first grader. So how did we do it? https://popediting.wordpress.com/2022/06/07/publishing-a-book-with-an-8-year-old/ #blog #AmWriting #parenting
