I recently found a full set of THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA. It was intended for my nephew some years back; he wasn't interested, and into storage it went.

Having never read any of them as a child, would they hold up to a first-time read as an adult? Or is it one of those things that I needed to experience at the right age?

My taste in fantasy leans towards the likes of Gaiman, Barker, and McGuire, but I'm also currently enjoying A WIZARD OF EARTHSEA by Le Guin.

I haven’t read then in a while and they are for kids, but they may be worth trying. The first book is the most famous, but I like a few of the others better, like The Magician’s Nephew and Voyage of the Dawn Treader. There are some problematic parts, definitely, but you can judge those for yourself. As for reading them as an adult, here’s Lewis’s dedication in the first book. If you read them, let me know if you’d suggest I revisit them myself 🙂
