Gannett says its personality-driven reporter roles to cover celebs like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé are part of a broader strategy to drive revenue that will “save local journalism.”

Because, you know, that strategy worked so well for BuzzFeed News, too. https://www.wsj.com/business/media/taylor-swift-beyonce-reporter-applications-a2c827c0

Hi everyone! 👋😊

Today is a special day. I have accepted an invitation to join another instance - photog.social 🎉

I'm still setting up but I thought a new #introduction might be in order.
I'm a fairly atypical Granny, living in #Scotland, with an #Iceland photography obsession. Bout ye?

A special photo to launch this profile. This is dawn over Núpufellshnjúkur in Eyjafjarðarsveit, #Iceland. Portrait so please click to see it in all its glory!

I’m so disappointed in the continued decline in what passes for political discourse.

Things have gotten so bad that calling what’s happening a “shitshow” has become an insult to real “shitshows.”

Silicon Valley Starts Hiring Poets To Fix Shitty Writing By Undercooked “AI”

When it comes to the early implementation of “AI,” it’s generally been the human beings that are the real problem. Case in point: the fail-upward incompetents that run the U.S. me…

I'm tired of the weak way the media writes about Trump's vicious witness intimidation
"Trump, in his Friday Truth Social post, also targeted Milley's role in the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. "
"targeted" Milley's role? How about targeting his LIFE?
"shocking comments made by former President Donald Trump."?
He's breaking the law and violating his pretrial conditions. This no longer is about "free speech" or the 1st Amendment. It's about the rule of law.

For the sake of empathy, I ask you all to take a second to consider things from the perspective of Conservatives:

Inflation is out of control. Housing is unaffordable. The healthcare system is broken. Everyone is drowning in student debt. Ecosystems are collapsing. We're constantly on the brink of war.

So naturally, one would ask, how can we even hope to solve these daunting and complex issues if we do not have detailed information on the genitals of every American citizen?

It’s amazing to me that a significant number of Canadians have a problem with the idea of a media company owned by us - Canadian citizens - and that they are appalled at the (untrue) allegations that the CBC is swayed by the government that we - the citizens of Canada - elected.

Meanwhile, these same folks are completely unfazed that almost every single other media outlet is owned, controlled, and directed by a handful of rich white guys who don’t even live in our country.

@stanwise @beryl @Popehat (THIS IS HYPOTHETICAL) Coming back to Trump, if there were a recording of Trump saying: "we're creating these false invoices, so that Cohen can defraud the NY tax authorities regarding the repayment of funds", that would tick the statute requirement **even if** Cohen later decided to be honest with the NY tax authorities.

(A prosecutor might use discretion not to bring that case, but I think it would meet the intent requirement)

@stanwise @beryl @Popehat Like, maybe they don't have any evidence he stole anything or shot anyone. It probably won't matter.

The circumstances of "gun, ski-mask, night" is going to be enough to convince most jurors that the person had an intent to commit *some* crime, even if we can't say exactly which crime was being plotted.
