The case for #unregulated AI:
1. #AI can be used for bad, like #surveillance.
2. But #regulation will not stop #criminals or #government using it for evil (NSA, drone #war, etc).
3. It is better for all to have this #tech than for only a few, as these few have incredible power. Bad uses can be countered by a user's adversarial AI. A stylometric tracker can be tricked by AI rewriters, for example.
4. Therefore, we should keep AI #OpenSource.
@FeralRobots it makes sense (here, and usually on AI twitter, safetyism is used to mean "belief in extinction risk from asi")
i used safetyism because that was the best name for that i could think of (doomer is too e/acc-biased, notkilleveryoneist doesnt roll off the tongue)
and afaik most people who talk about AI ethics are concerned about the use of it for bad purposes like surveillance or misinformation and propose regulation which is [pause, ASI far]

imo some distro based on #nixos is gonna be what brings #linux mass adoption
- declarative package management: your whole system is stored in a couple of files
- immutability & rollbacks: fucked up? not a problem, roll it back
- etc etc
just need to add normie friendly interfaces on top and you're set
