Announcing Hanami v2.0.0.rc1

First Release Candidate! Preparing for the stable release, and sharing a preview of our updated guides.

Hanami

I got to sit in with a #choir in #Antigonish tonight, which was super lovely. They're really talented and have a really excellent sound.

It was amusing how most of their songs were about the sea. Coincidence of programming, I'm sure, but it was a real 'Welcome to #NovaScotia' moment for me!

It was also my first time sight-reading #Gaelic, which was a real delight, let me tell you, lol.

Here was that song, which is absolutely gorgeous with a deep history:

It is surprisingly hard to not re-follow familiar big-number handles from the birdsite 'for information'.

This feels like a super great chance to build cooperative networks, but that only works if the relationship is bidirectional. There's folks that I could toot at all day for a year and it wouldn't make sense for them to know me as a person.

I crave the connection. I am so grateful to the Early Tooters for figuring that bit out.

@matt Are you running masto 3.5.3 or one of the v4 RCs, out of curiosity?

Let's do an #introduction! I'm Tom, an engineering leader with a focus on the web. I love all things platform & SRE, and mainly work in #golang and #ruby.

In my spare time I like flying virtual planes (cos I'm a massive geek) and being a Scout Leader helping young people develop #SkillsForLife.

Lifelong dream to retire to the #EastCoast and I still can't quite believe we get to live in #NovaScotia now instead of 30 years from now. Feeling awfully lucky.

Where do you live in #NovaScotia and what do you love about it?

The pandemic isn't over. #WearAMask, #GetVaccinated, and #SocialDistance if you care about other people's wellbeing.
Oh, sweet, #Duolingo on my computer now has the new course track. Wonder if it's the same on my android now? #french #learningFrench #languageLearning

Tip for the new folk:
Often Mastodon’s features work the way they do because it was first populated by people who had been harassed on FB and the Birdsite.

For instance (not sorry), you cannot search Masto for a simple term. Only #hashtags. Say you’re having a private conversation about iguanas. Anti-iguana trolls will not be able to search for “iguanas”, find your conversation, and drop into it to say, “Iguana luvers suck!”

But if you are wanting to connect with new iguana fanciers on Mastodon, slipping an #iguanas hashtag somewhere into your posts will allow people to search for and find them.

#TwitterMigration #Twitter

Lotta talk about replacing Twitter.

The better dialogue is how to get people to re-evaluate how they engage with the internet.

Personally, I'm convinced of two things:

- You can't 1:1 replace Twitter unless it's a similar top-down walled garden.

- Most people probably shouldn't want a Twitter replacement, since Twitter is bad for us.

Instead of finding/molding/creating a replacement, we should encourage people (and ourselves!) to focus on what they like most about internet interaction.
