Crafter of text adventures, casual artist, game dev who's hilariously tragic at gaming. Notorious hoarder of half-written ttrpg campaigns, overly-floral prose, and 35mm film. Anti-assimilationist queer.

What does Linux flavor taste like

Having a hard time getting a linux box connecting properly at work (because our IT isn't linux-savvy) and one of my coworkers is getting all uppity in the chat because "you can just ssh" and "we shouldn't be doing anything that can't be done via CLI" and i'm getting real heckin irritated about it.

Like yeah, everything can be done headless, but shove off with this tech bro high horse nonsense. Not all of our team has extensive nix experience and even if they do, sometimes the GUI is easier. Sometimes the GUI provides more concise, easily-digestible information. A good dev uses the right tools, not the hardest tools.

Anyway I'm admin and it's my architecture so I changed the password on him until the GUI is online. He doesn't get to run wild on this box before the new folks have an equal chance.

programmers are always posting like "worked on tracking down an issue with a Flurble deployment for twelve hours. the problem wasn't in Flurble at all - it was in the Gumbies install. It turns out if you install Gumbies 3.0 over Gumbies 2.7 and don't do a cache flush on all the client spiders they'll get stuck in the crystal maze." then you look up Gumbies and the site is one of those scroll scroll scroll types with one sentence per page, like

"GUMBIES is a lean, expressive sharding sandcube for testing and deploying large scale Woodchips playgrounds.

GUMBIES automates and streamlines away watersliding phases, meaning your team can get right to the chipping.

See why Microsoft, OpenAI and Bloingo have embraced GUMBIES in their Woodchips workflows."

and you get to the bottom and you're like I want this I guess but I still don't know what it is

This is *amazing*: a #CrossStitch tribute to the legendary #TextAdventure game #Zork with two of its most iconic lines.

The Clue of the Broken Needle

This. Is my pride and joy. A gift for my dad, who played Zork with me when I was a kid, and with his dad when he was a kid. I designed this pattern myself and had a great time puzzling out how to hidโ€ฆ

@rabbit I'm never more than a breath away from fury about this and every time I get an excuse to go off I make the most of it.
