As @gwynnion said earlier, the Trump regime is so utterly unhinged and ridiculously villainous, that world leaders should not bother visiting anymore.

Just snub this laughstock horror of a country. Shrug at its whining and invitations. Treat it like the regime of angry toddlers that it is. Let it stand alone in the international corner and soil its diaper.

Donald Trump ambushed the South African president, Cyril Ramaphosa, by playing him a video that he falsely claimed proved genocide was being committed against white people under “the opposite of apartheid”. The hectoring stunt on Wednesday set up the most tense Oval Office encounter since Trump’s bullying of Volodymyr Zelenskyy in February. But Ramaphosa – who earlier said that he had come to Washington to “reset” the relationship between the two countries – refused to take the bait and suggested that they “talk about it very calmly”. What began as a convivial meeting at the White House, including lighthearted quips about golf, took a sudden turn when Ramaphosa told Trump there is no genocide against Afrikaners. Trump said, “We have thousands of stories talking about it,” then ordered his staff: “Turn the lights down and just put this on.” Sitting next to Trump before the fireplace, Ramaphosa forced a smile and turned to look at a big TV screen as Trump’s South Africa-born billionaire ally Elon Musk, JD Vance, the defence secretary Pete Hegseth, and diplomats and journalists from both countries looked on. The video included footage of former South African president Jacob Zuma and firebrand opposition politician Julius Malema singing an apartheid-era struggle song called Kill the Boer, which means farmer or Afrikaner, as supporters danced. Ramaphosa quietly but firmly pushed back, pointing out that the views expressed in the video are not government policy. There was also footage that Trump claimed showed the graves of more than a thousand white farmers, marked by white crosses. Ramaphosa, who had mostly sat expressionless, occasionally craning his neck to look, said he had not seen that before and would like to find out what the location was. Trump then produced a batch of newspaper articles that he said were from the last few days reporting on killings in South Africa. He read some of the headlines and commented: “Death, death, death, horrible death.” Ramaphosa acknowledged there is crime in South Africa and said the majority of victims were Black. Trump cut him off and said: “The farmers are not Black.” The conspiracy theory of a white genocide has long been a staple of the racist far right, and in recent years has been amplified by Musk and rightwing media personality Tucker Carlson. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/may/21/trump-south-africa-president-meeting?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

Just woke up to find out the president has revoked the security clearances of everyone at a cybersecurity company because Chris Krebs went to work there. Krebs was his director for the agency in charge of Cybersecurity & Election Security during his first term and refuted his claim the 2020 election was "stolen".

Revoking the clearance of every employee basically kills the company's ability to do government contracts, which is a major source of revenue for cybersecurity companies. The White House press release also restates the false claim that the 2020 election was "rigged and stolen".

The US is basically a fascist dictatorship at this point. One where the president goes after entire companies because a single person spoke out against his verifiably false claims. You'd have to be completely insane to travel here right now.

Seems like intentionally damaging the full faith & credit of the United States in order to do insider trading for the benefit of your political supporters could be an impeachable offense.

He told people to buy stocks only minutes before he announced the new policy of pausing tariffs for 90 days.

The Republican Party is using our government and US stock market to conduct the most massive insider trading & racketeering scheme in US history.

A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.
😄

We will be out today at the #TeslaTakedown in Ann Arbor.

Where are you standing up for freedom from Elon Musk?

This is why emptying out DOJ, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau started by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, the IRS and the SEC, has been such a high priority for the Republicans.
Journalists presently credulously reporting and/or salivating over our residing in the "pump" portion of the "pump & dump" process, are fucking idiots and you should note who they are and stop reading their work.
As a collective, we have one choice at this point: get smarter & more aggressive on literally every front, or...lose.

'Is this market manipulation?' Rumors swirling over potential Trump admin insider trading

After one of the best days on Wall Street since World War II, fueled by President Donald Trump and his team's conflicting messages and actions on tariffs, questions are swirling over possible insider trading, market manipulation, and "pump and dump" schemes.President Trump's announcement that he is ...

Reminds me so much of the Very Serious & Rational Men reassuring everyone during his Twitter purchase that Musk was 1) a business person with sane business reasons & also somehow 2) just a dumb-dumb.

One thing it DEFINITELY WASN'T - you paranoid & hysterical ladies - a non-economic move to achieve his right wing political goals.

Anyhoo.

I think the "Trump is just a dummy who knows nothing about the market" takes are lazy & encourage us to be lazy & let further harms pass by without action.

There are massive apparatuses with many people in them, that drive these market moves by the GOP who run the US govt now. It's not all being run by Trump. It's very naive to approach this with One Big Man theory.

Like, congrats Jon Favreau, you wrote a snarky post that reads well with your liberal readership.

“Art of the Deal: 1) Impose massive tariffs on nearly every country that crash the markets and create the conditions for global economic collapse 2) Make zero deals with zero countries 3) Pause tariffs 4) VICTORY!!”

Great, you can all clap each other on the back about how GOP idiots are being dumb.

It's true as far as it goes, but also shows you completely unprepared to do counter it.

But what do I know, I'm just a Paranoid Hysterical Lady with advanced degrees in the history of fascism, and a record of seeing all the flags that mattered, way before the Very Serious Men with Very Serious Reps and Very Serious Think Tank Paychecks.

I am glad some Very Serious Men are finally ringing alarm bells and honestly, the more the merrier, but I just can't believe they think they're still the best people to be in charge of this battle, given past performance.

Never tired of failing up. I'm just dumbfounded most of the time now.

Like, would it kill you dudes to have a little more humility, and a little more skepticism about both your priors and how bad things really are over there among the GOP? There are actual vicious traitors throughout their ranks. Start with Roger Stone. I just don't get what the dudebros in the Democratic Party actually think is happening right now. What is their theory of the case? They seem stupid to me.
@chargrille Many of us think he’s not very smart, and he really isn’t. However, we underestimate him at the same time. This kind of stuff is mother’s milk to him. We have to do better.
@chargrille I'm more tired and stressed out than dumbfounded these days. 😵‍💫
@markstoneman @chargrille Better get used to it. This is going to be the new normal now that we've effectively dismantled the safeguards we spent nearly a hundred years putting in place the first time.

@chargrille

I was read-only checking my Gamer list on Twitter; was that the "Art of the Deal" thread that was trending under What's Happening?

Glad I didn't bother to click through and look at it

@FinchHaven I don't know. I saw this part somewhere else. I think on Bluesky.

@chargrille

Yeah just went back to Twitter and did a quick search and that was Favreau's post there

Maybe he cross-posted

@chargrille Favreau won't get it, because he's already got his, and although I think he's likely sincere in his opposition to everything, to trump's fascism, I can see that, but the smarmy insider Obama-Bro guys are just going to try to sell everyone on going back to the neoliberal status quo.

That said, I do enjoy listening from time to time.

@chargrille

He knows exactly what he is doing. The Tariff negotiations weren't with other countries, they were with wall street. He can yank that chain and the markets in whichever direction suits him and his associates.

@noondlyt @chargrille

IMHO it's both: It's well documented he has held these lunatic tariff and trade deficit beliefs for decades. IIRC first publicly documented in the 1980ies. In that sense he doesn't know what he's doing.

But he's been a criminal and fraudster all his life, so ofc he knows exactly he can enrich himself, his cronies and donors by market manipulation.

@chargrille yep this is why I don’t care for that “don’t attribute to malice what is actually stupidity” cop out. It usually isn’t stupidity, that’s part of the con.
@maggiejk @chargrille Ignorance and stupidity in sufficient magnitude are indistinguishable from malice
@chargrille agreed. he’s not doing this on his own. he’s supported by both republican-led houses of congress, and he’s being directed by project 2025.

@chargrille I agree with your reasoning. I think Trump is obviously stupid. But he also knows a good con or fraud when he hears one. So he seems to have surrounded himself with all sorts of cronies who (I think) are pitching crazy ideas to get rich quick. And he goes along with them and does his part. I don’t think of Trump as some mastermind. He’s in charge, but he’s not the brains of the operation and he’s definitely not the muscle. He’s involved, but it takes teamwork to fuck shit up at this scale.

@chargrille watching the representative (Steven Horsford) rip him a new one for the obvious lies was pretty satisfying, though, I gotta say.
@aud Rep. Horsford did well, I agree.

@chargrille i'm already hoarse from calling it. thanks for this post.
@chargrille all I know is that Martha fucking Stewart served time for less than this.
@chargrille Maybe those journalists are too busy doing the same thing the rich people are to do a decent job of reporting.
@chargrille Didn't Trump say, when he first announced the tariffs, "It's a great time to get rich."?
@chargrille If only there was an independent FBI.
@chargrille I would like this to be retooted over 9000 times.
@chargrille
Yes. You appear to be right about this. He said "Now is a great time to buy..." the night before the "pause". Sure flipping was if you could sell quick 24 hours later.
@chargrille who is going to impeach Trump? The GOP were also in on the insider trading no doubt.
