NYC Century Bike Tour

🚴 The NYC Century Bike Tour is Back – Bigger, Bolder & More Festive Than Ever! 🎉Grab your bike, pump those tires, and get ready to roll—because the legendary NYC Century is hitting the streets once again! This isn’t just any ride; it’s a pedal-powered love letter to New York City, where 3,000 cyclists of all wheels of life (yes, even that guy on the unicycle) will take on up to 100 miles across four boroughs. Your registration allows you access to the route of your choice, a water bottle, finisher medal and more surprises! (For the ultimate experience, scoop up a VIP ticket!) Expect a parade of families, young professionals, outdoor adventurers, and wellness warriors, all united by one belief: NYC streets should be safer, friendlier, and filled with more bike bells and fewer car horns. Whether you're a century-slayer or a casual cruiser, there’s a route for you—plus plenty of high-fives, scenic cityscapes, and even a post-ride festival. You won't want to miss this! 🚲✨Why is the NYC Century back? This year's NYC Century Ride is possible because of a gift from the estate of Roger Herz. Roger was one of TA's founding members and spent decades advocating for bicycle infrastructure and public transit. Known for "giving mayors an earful" Roger became a fierce advocate for congestion pricing which now exists today. TA is thrilled to honor his legacy with a ride to show off the joy of bicycling and all the progress that has been made on our streets. Need a bike rental for the NYC Century? We've partnered up with Bicycle Habitat! Click here to reserve your bike.

Don't give up.

So many people said I was wasting my time working on Pixelfed.

Success is the best revenge. 🚀

It's a testament to how good Macs are that despite the year-on-year gains and advancements, I'm still sticking with my M1. It's more than good enough.

ACTION ALERT: Contact Governor Kathy Hochul & say that you are against banning masks in NY, & she should issue a statement retracting her comments on CNN supporting a mask ban.

Governor Kathy Hochul

Kathy Hochul is one of the most spineless and treacherous cowards that has ever served in Albany. Millions of dollars have already gone into preparing for this. Cameras, track maintenance. But Hochul folded like a pathetic and pusillanimous bobblehead. Now congestion pricing won't be taken seriously and will face a harder fight. This is why neoliberal Democrats piss me off as much as Republicans. A waste of money.

ABC7 New York

If only #NYC would make good on its promise to give a car lane over to folks on foot and #bike, #BikeNYC folks might have a chance to avoid crashes on the dangerously narrow bikeway of the #QueensboroughBridge .

Cyclists Keep Crashing On the Narrow Queensboro Bridge Path: Data Streetsblog New York City

New data indicate that most crashes happen because it's so narrow.

It is not possible to say this any better. From today's Star Tribune.

We strongly oppose Intro 0758-2022, which would create a significant burden on bike and e-scooter riders.

This bill would require all e-bikes, including pedal-assist Citi Bikes and cargo bikes, to be licensed and registered, deterring New Yorkers from embracing more sustainable transit modes at a critical point in the climate fight, and putting delivery workers at risk of ticketing and arrest.

E-Bike Registration Won’t Make Our Streets Safer — Transportation Alternatives

A registration requirement would be a costly and inefficient program that would not achieve the intended goal.

Transportation Alternatives

Here's that GoFundMe, which we just posted in a stand-alone toot but wanted to add to this big thread also. https://www.gofundme.com/f/laid-off-texas-observer-journalists-and-staff

Thanks for donating and sharing and everyone that's taken time to send well wishes. We are pretty overwhelmed and drained so may not be able to reply to each individually but we see you and appreciate you so much. 🤠

BREAKING: Thanks to your calls, messages, and activism, Gov. Hochul has signed the Complete Streets Funding Bill!

This legislation — sponsored by Sen. Tim Kennedy and AM Patricia Fahy — increases state funding for safe streets projects.

This law will save lives.
