I'm not really worried about AI mimicking my writing. This is the nonsense I got back when I fed some of my essays into it and asked AI to write an essay about giant rabbits in the style of my voice. Some vague syntactic matches, but mostly gibberish that honestly had me howling with laughter.
Richard Ben Cramer's WHAT IT TAKES remains one of the greatest volumes about American politics ever written. You might even call Cramer's work a litmus test or sort. Because only the worst and least brightest critical practitioners -- people like Jonathan Yardley and Maureen Dowd -- have gone out of their way to condemn Cramer. This s probably because these two fools have neither talent nor original voices of their own.
I spent many years trying to unsuccessfully hunt the BANANAS soundtrack on vinyl in my youth. And now here's the whole thing on YouTube. Marvin Hamlisch was a goddamned genius for writing a tune that could be both emotionally poignant and goofy as hell with those kazoos. Seriously if you don't at least smile over these cues, you have no soul. It's one of the great silly musical scores of all time!

I'm very excited about the new season of FOR ALL MANKIND this week. Longtime FAM fans know that the first five minutes of a season premiere begins with a massive time jump, where we catch up with the events in this alternative timeline. And the show's writers are impressively fastidious and quite fun. It's one of the great dopamine hits on TV. Well, for thinking people. And I'd like to think that Mastodon was likely the default all along in that alt timeline.
PROJECT HAIL MARY was a delightful surprise. The kid wanted to see it. So I was fully expecting to soldier through it. But it proved to be a persuasively heartwarming movie about working together. While Rocky stole the show, Ryan Gosling does a phenomenal job holding the movie on his shoulders.
Saw the Patrick Page TITUS ANDRONICUS. Pretty good, particularly the second half. But it is more interested in style over substance. The director doesn't give Titus time to grieve when he first sees Lavinia maimed. That's a key narrative twist that requires all the time to play out and I was angered with the director rushing it. Also, Chiron and Demetrius are fabulous. But the director has them show up with tallboys. Really? The acting isn't enough? Insulting.
A mediocre right-wing white guy who knew martial arts dropped dead.
Hmm, I'm wondering if I should make beef stew for lunch!
Gov. Tony Evers signed a bill extending postpartum coverage for Wisconsin moms from just 60 days to a full year after giving birth.
This is what being pro-life actually looks like supporting mothers and families after birth. 💙
