Interessant article qui explique un peu pourquoi j’ai autant de photos de mon vélo dans ma librairie :-).

J’exagère, je le prend pas en photo à chaque sortie tout de même.

Update six weeks after my surgery

After 2 weeks back to swimming, I was able to reach 1000 meters today. I didn’t use my cane for the experiment 🥳

Enjoying my sunbath now, after the efforts 😎

Next week I have a plan to do 30 km on my road bike.

We made it to the campsite at like 8pm 🥲
The morning was stormy. The afternoon was a bit better but there were still clouds with heavy rains.
Eventually in the late afternoon the weather was perfect. We were on quiet farms roads so we really enjoyed it. We were so tired after the long day.

Very nice #CriticalMass
yesterday in #Montreal. We had around 400 participants! The ambience, energy, light, and lack of rain were all very pleasant :-)

I'm happy my broken femur is recovering well so I can participate in this monthly event.

@fixatedpersonsunit Sodding Google. Lucky I like Safari! And Ghostery.

@nygl @fixatedpersonsunit

I use a 2016 MacBook pro, running OS X 12.7.6 - the final version Apple supports on this HW. Frustratingly, Ghostery requires a more recent version of OS X. This is true for every legit ad blocking alternative I have been able to find.

The computer works fine (OK - the battery is tired, but that can be replaced), but Apple and every other developer is forcing me to either buy new, or return my roots (linux).

Very frustrating.

@lolcat @fixatedpersonsunit I run this on 2 x Mac Pro devices. I have nothing that runs current macOS natively. https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/
OpenCore Legacy Patcher

Experience macOS just like before

@nygl @fixatedpersonsunit

Thanks! I suppose I have no reason not to try this - I'd completely forgotten it existed!

@fixatedpersonsunit Web is unusable without a good ad blocker.

Personally I think this is a minimal setup:
* Pihole with unbound for recursive DNS to block ads and minimise who knows what sites I'm visiting
* Firefox:uBlock Origin to block generic things that aren't DNS blockable
* Firefox:YouTube ad block to make youtube not painful to use.

@fixatedpersonsunit I've had people try to argue you SHOULD use chrome because it's better the devil you know than some third party company you don't (their explanations for companies like kagi, vivaldi, etc).

I just couldn't facepalm hard enough.

@bastardsheep @fixatedpersonsunit I swear, the excuses people come up with to STAY on enshittified products that they clearly absolutely hate and wrestle with daily

It really does sound exactly to me like the shit my brain's inner monologue told me to convince me to keep smoking and not quit way back when. Every single time I was making an attempt to quit smoking.

The things that made absolutely no sense what so ever once I gave in and lit up, but were the most logical and reasonable sounding things ever under withdrawal cravings.

@bastardsheep @fixatedpersonsunit Ugh! And Vivaldi is basically the same HTML engine as Chrome, just without the Google!

So frustrating!

I get the distinct impression there's a lot of people out there who don't understand computers, but have learnt how to navigate interfaces.
@aj I generally agree with this impression but I don't get it in the case of browsers.
The difference between e.g. Chrome and Firefox are miniscule, as long as you're not a semi-technixal person who cares about the specifics.
I mean, I have to use Chrome at work now after using only Firefox for many years, and even I barely notice a difference
@aj @bastardsheep @fixatedpersonsunit and with a closed source front end on top of it, I see no reasons to ever use vivaldi at all. They’re just good at marketing their product to the “right” audience.
@mauro @aj @bastardsheep @fixatedpersonsunit Vivaldi got a ton of features youre not seeing in other Browsers...
@ThreeM @mauro @bastardsheep @fixatedpersonsunit Including Mastodon.

As in, there's a built-in Mastodon client within the Vivaldi web browser, using Vivaldi's own social.Vivaldi.net instance.

Also @jon posts regularly on Mastodon.

@bastardsheep @fixatedpersonsunit

It's definitely not 'one size fits all', for sure. I've stuck with Brave although some are vehemently against it for various reasons. I just kill their telemetry nonsense, install Ublock Origin, sync, and I'm off and running.

@fixatedpersonsunit

Presently UBlock Origin is still working in Ungoogled Chromium

A good alternative is LibreWolf.

If you use firefox as a minimum delete

you may need to correct paths, they depend on your system.

remove
/usr/lib/firefox-esr/browser/features/screenshots@mozilla.org.xpi' \
'/usr/lib/firefox-esr/crashreporter' \

In your profile
Set rw-r--r-- ... broadcast-listeners.json

delete any remote settings binary

Screenshots is an unnecessary risk.
i also delete pingsender

@Kerplunk @fixatedpersonsunit So does UBlock Origin Lite. That they decided to let every user run into scary messages instead of providing a clear upgrade path is completely on the maintainers of the extension.

@waldi @fixatedpersonsunit

Google Chrome
Scary message

The message is due google changes.

U block lite is designed to work after the change to manifest V3, it is less effective.

Google wants to sell more ads.

from google store.

Info has been on the net for months, UBlock light is a downgrade forced by google and easy to install.

uBlock Origin - Free, open-source ad content blocker.

uBlock Origin is not just an “ad blocker“, it's a wide-spectrum content blocker with CPU and memory efficiency as a primary feature. Developed by Raymond Hill.

@fixatedpersonsunit or remove chrome from your life totally
@fixatedpersonsunit I use Firefox out of principle. And despite dumb things done by Mozilla, it's somehow still the best browser that's most flexible and works best for me. Also extensions for it are of much higher quality than Chromes even when talking about same extensions.
@rejzor @fixatedpersonsunit Better than Brave? I'm still in doubt...
@hans_zelf @rejzor @fixatedpersonsunit Brave is ran by a homophobic and transphobic asshole with employees with similar opinions. It's an okay browser but combined with the URL meddling fiasco, VPN installing scandal, and oh so much Web3 I just don't have it in me to use it.
@danni_storm @rejzor @fixatedpersonsunit ow, I didn't know. I sometimes use it for it's cookie-blocking abilities and because it automatically strips all kind of preroll advertisements on YouTube and other streaming platforms. Something Firefox somehow doesn't do as well.
Any alternatives I should consider?

@hans_zelf @rejzor @fixatedpersonsunit

I made this post awhile ago. Anything with a good baked in ad blocker or uBlock extension will do similar things.

@danni_storm @rejzor @fixatedpersonsunit Thanks, but none of those seem to be apps I can easily download and install on Android. I'm familiar with installing third-party apps but at least I have to be able to find them (on a trustworthy server).
@ThreeM @rejzor @fixatedpersonsunit First site I tried it on (nhnieuws.nl) it doesn't block ads.

@hans_zelf

Did you enable ad blocking in settings? Here's how that site looks like in vivaldi on my android tablet:

@ThreeM @rejzor @fixatedpersonsunit

@older @ThreeM @rejzor @fixatedpersonsunit Yes, I blocked everything. Ads, trackers, social media content,...
@older @ThreeM @rejzor @fixatedpersonsunit Ah, found it. After disabling and re-enabling the ad-blockers it works. Seems the list weren't updated on first install.
@ThreeM @hans_zelf @rejzor @fixatedpersonsunit

I use Firefox and, as an alternative, Vivaldi.

Vivaldi is based on Chrome (developed in Europe), but I can install and use uBlock, and I like having different accounts for private and business use.

@rejzor @fixatedpersonsunit

In #Mozilla #Firefox, the user can ...

* modify the toolbar (add / remove / move items)

* modify the look with userChrome.css

* use container tabs to separate sites without bothering with different profiles

* move tabs to the side

Last I checked, Chrome did not have the first and maybe none of the others either.

@fixatedpersonsunit Remember how Google tried to make everyone believe their company motto was, "Don't be evil" ?
@gcvsa @fixatedpersonsunit It was until 2016, then the current mob took over and dropped the "don't".

@bastardsheep @gcvsa @fixatedpersonsunit There's a Wikipedia page about it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don't_be_evil#History

- Between 21 April and 4 May 2018, Google removed the motto from the preface, leaving a mention in the final line: "And remember... don't be evil, and if you see something that you think isn't right – speak up!" -

Well, it turns out you can easily get fired by Google if you speak up.

Don't be evil - Wikipedia

@regendans @bastardsheep @gcvsa @fixatedpersonsunit Ohh, a much deeper dive than anything I've done.

My talk is more anecdotally and based on their behaviours rather than official changes.

@regendans @bastardsheep @gcvsa @fixatedpersonsunit
'adding that the slogan was "also a bit of a jab at a lot of the other companies, especially our competitors, who at the time, in our opinion, were kind of exploiting the users to some extent".'

@fixatedpersonsunit I've heard good things about Vivaldi. But I stopped Chrome from updating some time ago, stick with a version I like.

@pa27 do you also like the vulnerabilities in your favourite version of chrome?

Not updating your browser is worse for privacy than using google chrome.

@xconde Not so. The updates are mostly not about vulnerabilities, just changes for the sake of it, or to suit google. You can stick with a known set of issues or roll the dice and get a new unknown set!

@pa27 have a look at the vulnerability count by Chrome version: https://www.cvedetails.com/version-list/1224/15031/1/Google-Chrome.html?order=0

Older versions have more discovered vulnerabilities. Older vulnerabilites are more likely to be exploited in the wild and en masse.

Roll those dice if you want but first you have to ask yourself one question: do I feel lucky?

Google Chrome versions and number of CVEs, vulnerabilities

Google Chrome versions. Detailed list of versions with known security vulnerabilities, CVEs.

@fixatedpersonsunit alternatively: just uninstall chrome?
@fixatedpersonsunit the warning message should ends with "Chrome recommends that you remove me." 😉
@fixatedpersonsunit I read that as a recommendation from Chrome to remove Chrome.
@fixatedpersonsunit Chrome is awful. There are way better browsers out there as I found out.
@fixatedpersonsunit It should hurt to use Chrome. Every Chrome user needs a USB boxing glove that whacks them every 5 minutes until they switch to a privacy respecting browser.
@fixatedpersonsunit Brave has a very aggressive adblocker built-in on engine level, which makes it go undetected, and although it is based on the (degoogled) chromium engine, it still allows the use of V2 extensions.
@johanvandevelde @fixatedpersonsunit Luckily you can pay Brave to still add advertising to your browsing experience. It's like torrenting and then selling copies from your garage. Ethical and fair!
@martijn @fixatedpersonsunit It's opt-in, so you are entirely free to ignore this.
@johanvandevelde @fixatedpersonsunit right I forget about their built-in crypto wallet. Sounds like a great browser!
@martijn @fixatedpersonsunit Again: this is opt-in. Have been using Brave for 3 years now. Together with Librewolf and Mullvad browser, the best privacy-centered browser out there.
@fixatedpersonsunit We recommend not to use Chrome.

@fixatedpersonsunit

I recommend Google doesn't tell me what software I am and am not allowed to run. Seriously... fuck them

There are many options, the firefox addon is pretty effective.
