If you struggle with water entering your nose while swimming, stop "humming" underwater. The "M" sound keeps your soft palate relaxed and your nasal passage open.
Instead, practice the "K" or "G" sound (Velar stops). This manually lifts the soft palate and creates a watertight seal from the inside, removing the need for nose clips.
