By the way: a few days ago I finally finished my custom traveller's notebook cover / wallet!

All in all I'm very happy with how it turned out. There are a few things I might adjust or do differently for a V2. For example, the money compartment could be a little wider and attaching bias tape straight is harder than I thought.

I'll have to tinker with the closing mechanism: in theory, there are magnets and ferrofoil in there, but although I tested it and thought it should work, in practice the adhesion through the two layers of leather is so weak that you barely notice it :( Maybe I'll try bigger magnets or a magnetic button.

But still, most things work just as planned in real usage and the aesthetics work as I hoped! I enjoyed working with this cork leather a lot (sadly the shop I got it from closed down, so I'll have to look somewhere else for fuzure projects).

The hardest thing for me about this project was serial decision paralysis. Since I planned this all by myself from scratch, every single measurement and design was a decision I had to figure out. Which was especially hard to do starting from a blank page. For my next project I'll probably do something guided with a pattern to recuperate :D

If and when I'll find the time, I'll sort out and upload my plans, in case anyone wants to make something similar themselves :D

DS9 is short for Delicious Soup 9

@cebstill shared the text and video below.

I honestly don’t know which makes me laugh the hardest. The fact of what the lyrics actually are or the hysterical laughter of one of the men discussing this. This is my favorite video of the year so far.🩵🦁🦁🦁🩵

I used to hang around the Bell Labs Murray Hill 1127 lab -- where UNIX originated -- sometimes when I was in the area. A fond memory is sitting at a terminal in there (probably a Blit) working on a program back on my L.A. system over the Net. I ran into a complicated C declaration issue. Sitting a few feet away at the next terminal was Dennis Ritchie (dmr) -- a wonderful guy. Well hell, since he created C, who better to ask about this. So I did, and he instantly offered me an elegant solution I would never have thought of. Years later, it occurred to me that this was the closest I'd ever be to getting advice directly from a god.

Kind and cherished FOSS and computing freedom advocate @sleepyowl (Joyce Ng) has gone missing and there is reason to fear she may have been apprehended by authorities, possibly likely even for being framed. Nobody has been able to reach her and many of us are worried for her safety.

Joyce does work on verifiable open source hardware. She also has been an activist pushing against the rise of far-right Christian nationalism globally but especially in Singapore. Because of this and her identity, she has people who would like to see bad things happen to her.

Probably for this reason, she may have been misidentified by Five Eyes as being a threat actor. Joyce wrote about this concern in November, posting a threatening screenshot where she was tipped off. https://bitowl.online/about

Please spread this wide. Hopefully this is a false alarm but Joyce is a kind-hearted person who fights for human rights and computing freedom; many of us are worried for her safety.
