My first game on PS4 Slim was Horizon Zero Dawn and I was so bad at it, probably because my first time playing with a controller and also after many years. Yesterday I played it again on PS5 Pro and I am so good at it. Felt so good to be good at something I was very bad at 😂

A full house last night at the excellent #geomobLON last night at the Geovation offices in Farringdon.

Thank you to the speakers for engaging us, our sponsors for making it all possible and the Geovation team for hosting us.

Here's a rundown of the evening's proceedings:

The first talk of the evening was given by Keir Clarke, presenting his work with tripgeo, a creator of geogames.

He focused on his most popular game, scrambledmaps (https://www.tripgeo.com/scrambledmaps), and also covered new games such as vintage scrambled maps andhe integration of 3D!

An excellent project worth keeping an eye on, and losing a few hours to.

You can hear Keir speak on our podcast here: https://thegeomob.com/podcast/episode-279

Next up was Steve Karmeinsky (https://www.linkedin.com/in/stevekennedyuk/), who gave a comprehensive update on developments on @openstreetmap in the UK.

The third talk by Anne Lee Steele (https://www.linkedin.com/in/anneleesteele/) focusing on the intersections between art, activism and mapping.

She presented several exhibitions and interesting examples, including "Elegies for Oil Spills". This project includes an interactive map that shows oil spills events from around the world and uses AI to collate news clippings from the time. You can see it in action below:

Alesja Gilvear (https://www.linkedin.com/in/alesja-gilvear-8868b839/) and Ilya Ilyankou (https://www.linkedin.com/in/ilyankou/) shared the stage for the fourth talk of the evening to present Safest Way, a navigation solution to help people calculate the safest route home at night.

The final talk of the evening was by Anthony Chisnall (https://www.linkedin.com/in/anthony-chisnall-813ba84b/). Standing in after one of our speakers dropped out last minute, he ran us through his "vibecoded" SaaS solution to help improve the accuracy of map points for building entries and waypoints.

Did you know that 15% of NHS missed appointments were as a result of wayfinding problems?

With all the talks done, it was time for the traditional vote for the best speaker of the evening...

...

The winner was

...

Alesja and Ilya of Safest Way!

At long last, some hard-earned #geobeers at the wonderful Sutton Arms, just a stone's throw away from Geovation.
