Welcome to FOSS4G:UK 2025

@alexei @geospacedman Yeah I was surprised by the amount at #foss4guk. The thing that drives me utterly nuts is people using AI images and making a big deal of how they've used AI images and they're crap: rather than saying that just make them non-crap or don't use them (particularly for images that require text, which it is well-known that AI images are often poor at).

I had a great time at the #FOSS4GUK conference in Leeds this week, lots of interesting talks. My first FOSS4G event since 2013 - how did that time pass so quickly?

The biggest difference since then is that OpenStreetMap is just 100% accepted as a thing, no doubts or novelty etc. Whether that's to demo client-side routing or default data source in QGIS or even training AI models.

Nice to meet so many new people, and some familiar faces too.

I'm looking forward to the 2026 conference already!

#FOSS4GUK 2025 is a wrap. It was an amazing experience and outstanding success. All of our speakers did so well to represent the spirit of OSGeo and #FOSS4G. Our greatest achievement was to welcome so many first time delegates and presenters to carry the torch and define us as a community, diverse, and united. We are looking forward now and hope that our local chapter, with your support, will be given the opportunity to invite you back to the UK for #FOSS4G2027 🌍🌎🌏♥️🫂
Home safe in Lancaster from #FOSS4GUK in Leeds, thanks to everyone who told me how much they enjoyed my talk, I am so glad to have shared those stories to liven up what was really a boring talk about PROJ strings. It'll be online at some point for everyone who couldn't make it.
At #FOSS4GUK in Leeds today? Make sure you check out @mapnavtom.bsky.social talk on #Hillshading in #QGIS, starting at 12:00
I win the prize for recognising the obscure geophysical equipment in the #foss4guk keynote.
