Google continues to build its massive surveillance empire under the sinister guise of “privacy.” In its latest iteration on #Android, Google
lets you opt into their “Ad Topics,” which roughly translated means, “Let Google be the gatekeeper of all your data.” (1/4)
Finally managed to blog about a project I did earlier this year! If you want to see how perfectly integrated Android App support on mobile Linux can look, check this out: https://blogs.gnome.org/jdressler/2023/12/20/a-dive-into-jolla-appsupport/
A dive into Jolla AppSupport

You might be aware of Jolla, a Finnish company that emerged after Nokia decided to stop using MeeGo and went with Windows Phone instead. Around 2012 Jolla started out by making their own hardware (these days they no longer do) and they have their own OS based on the MeeGo stack, SailfishOS. Because the app...

Ok, so I asked you to give me all the questions you had for #Proton. I collected all of that, and asked all I could I fit in an 1h30 hour long interview with Andy Yen, the CEO of Proton.

He talked features, business model, #Linux support, #privacy, security, and everything in between, and here is the full interview:

Tusky is looking for contributors!

The #Tusky team has lost a few contributors this year for various reasons, and we need your help building a kick-ass Mastodon app!

While we would also appreciate more technical contributors, we are specifically looking for:
- a person who can manage or help with our social account
- a project manager who can help us draft a Code of Conduct

Please help us spread the word 😊

I'll be interviewing Andy Yen, the CEO of #Proton in early December, and I'd like to ask them the questions YOU have about Proton Mail, Drive, Calendar or VPN, or security and privacy in general. So I made a tiny little form where you can enter your questions, and I'll ask them during the interview, which you'll be able to watch on the Youtube and Peertube channel, of course.

We'll do our best to address as many questions as possible in the time we have!

@murena, the makers of @e_mydata OS (my favorite degoogled Android ROM), launched a kickstarter to fund their own phone, and it already surpassed its goal in about 24h!

I have a review device, expect a video about it next week ;)

In the meantime, here’s the link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/murena/murena-2-switch-your-privacy-on

I started contributing meta data like opening hours, business websites, social media links and Wi-Fi to @openstreetmap. With @organicmaps this is not too hard and kinda fun.

I encourage you to do the same and start with your hometown for example. You can usually get most of the information from the business’s or public facility’s website.

This is a great alternative to Candy Crush or whatever to fill idle time. And instead of burning money for loot boxes, you contribute to a fantastic project.

If you’re looking for #OpenSource app recommendations, you probably generally land in the usual « LibreOffice / GIMP » space.

But what about replacing other proprietary apps, like Obsidian, Notion, VS Code, Teams or Slack?

Well, I have a few recommendations for these as well, if you want to go all open source (and they all run on #Linux, of course):
